AS reported on the events for 2022 thread, there is now a big push from the LTA to increase international events for both adults and seniors:
"The new calendar will see Great Britain stage double the number of International ITF World Tennis Tour events, and more than double the number of international events for juniors, compared to 2019. This means across all age groups there will be 94 international events staged in Great Britain next year (excluding the traditional grass court season events), compared to 41 in 2019."
Enhanced British Tour events are also on offer, and the LTA are working with UK Pro League and the Progress Tour.
Seemingly, the powers that be have suddenly decided that it's vital "to provide players with a wide range of experience in meaningful and competitive matches".
As can be imagined, there are some slightly acerbic comments from 'old-timers', like Petchey and Fulcher, who always thought this was the way forward and made it happen, only for it all to be axed:

"Good news. Shame there was a 16 year gap from when David Felgate and myself introduced a huge number of events only for them to be cancelled when we left but better late than never. Do wonder where we would be had those events stayed for the past 15 years though"

"Yes, seems it was 5 steps back, to take 5 steps forward (a full 15 years later). Nevertheless, it is a step in the right direction & presents genuine opportunities for GB players. A comprehensive competitive schedule has be at the very core of player development & player support"
Funny that - they got a load of money donated by Amazon after Emma's win was shared on Channel 4 and the condition was to give our pros and juniors more domestic tournaments.
It will stop once the money runs out...

Nothing to do with the money from Amazon. This was all announced before Wimbledon.
I gave up waiting for the LTA to update the pages showing who was on the funding programs some time ago, but I see they've been updated
Pro Scholarship Programme Katie Boulter Jodie Burrage Harriet Dart Jack Draper Fran Jones Paul Jubb Aidan McHugh Jack Pinnington-Jones Emma Raducanu (they have her listed but her player profile says Elite Access)
Mens and Womens Programme Amarni Banks Max Carrier Alastair Gray Jasmine Conway Felix Gill Ben Gusic Wan Joe Mazingham Hannah Klugman Isabelle Lacy

I dont know Max Carrier Or Joe Mazingham, Im afraid, are they juniors or at college?
Some notable names missing Matilda M Talia NG Hep Oliver Bonding Mimi Xu
But that's because Talia, Hep, Oliver and Mimi are all at the academy so they don't need to be in that group.
And, for whatever reason, Hannah and Max and Ben aren't.
So they need a special programme (after all, that programme is supposed to be for over 16s, and only for 14 and 15s in exceptional circumstances)
So the programme isn't for normal academy players, even if - like Mimi - they're the top
"Who's it for?
The Mens & Womens Programme is for the very best 16 to 21 year old players in the country who are not currently on the Pro Scholarship Programme (the programme is also available to 14 and 15 year olds in exceptional circumstances)"
Interesting that Katie S (and Matilda?) has dropped out, and Harriet still in although I thought shed now earned too much to be eligible (although this may have been decided previously!)

Is this where someone points out that Max Carrier and Joe Mazingham have both just lost in the first round of the nationals, playing their proper category?
(It's true they are Y1 but all the same.....)

That ties in with what some of us were discussing a while back as to how the results of Loughborough were SO much better than Stirling. Although short-termism is always a problem.
But I wonder if they are going to increase the capacity of Loughborough
Rather leaves tennis scotland high and dry too - after all, there must have been a lot of investment - can that be re-used by Tennis Scotland?
Why provide a service in Scotland, when virtually none of the players are Scottish.
I suspect the academy players are frustrated at being so far from home.
I surprised they have gone to one venue rather than Bath, Nottingham or Bolton or even the NTC
