Really wish I could watch this in the States. Sounds like he is playing some great tennis. I mentioned it on the other thread about Norrie, but I think clay could be his best surface once he gets some experience. His game matches it much better than faster hard and indoor courts.
If we win the doubles tomorrow, it will be very interesting to see if Kyle can come to the party on Sunday. He was said to be "just a couple of days short", so maybe he will make an appearance. This tie just became very interesting.
Indeed. I assume that Cam will play Match 4 on Sunday and then maybe options for Match 5 if it is tied at 2-2.
Wouldn't of course have had any possible option with a 4 man team. With the doubles pair picking itself, whoever played singles today would have been in for the duration. But 5 this year.
Saturday first though ...

Or even without any experience! Great shout
Wow indeed, I couldn't believe how well Cam adapted to the surface. By the end of the match he was doing everything you should be doing on playing and doing it brilliantly.... looked an absolute natural on the surface, after being a little awkward and tentative on it early on. An absolutely incredible, phenomenal performance.... I kept expecting the brave bit as Broady had done, with eventually BA pulling it out when it mattered and going on to win... instead it was Norrie who kept powering on, kept hitting winners, kept crafting magnificent points, and showed no signs of nerves or letting up at the end....Hope that really does set the scene for Cam on clay this year, and he has one more match on the surface to come on Sunday.
I was impressed with Liam but Cam - wow! He only had one pro singles main draw win on any type of clay before this (beating Isaac Stoute in R1 of Newcastle Futures back in 2013) but he looked a natural on the red stuff for much of the match.
The only vaguely comparable GB Davis Cup debut singles wins I can find are Mark Petchey beating Thomas Muster (WR 46, CH to that date 6, would become no. 1) in 1991, though that wasn't away on clay - oddly, Mark lost all 9 of his later DC singles matches, so don't get *too* excited yet! -, and current Wimbledon referee Andrew Jarrett beating a Spaniard from 2 sets down on red clay in Barcelona in a World Group relegation playoff in 1982 (though he had played doubles in a number of ties before that and, like Petchey, he never won another singles rubber), but it would be hard to argue that Cam's win today wasn't the best ever win in a British player's first Davis Cup singles rubber.
Anyway, 1-1 after day 1 in the World Group with the GB point scored by a Scot, nothing new to see here, eh?

Some VERY strange things can happen in Davis Cup. Pressure will def be on the home team even though they are firm favourites. I predict a 3-2 loss for team GB
Great timing, managed to watch the last set between work and gym class but blown away by Can, he seemed to show no nerves even when he was serving for the match.
Can has turned the whole tie around from no hope to we can start believing victory is possible. No pressure Jamie and Dom but down to you now......
Oh, wow, and with all the busyness in my house today I had no idea all this was going on. Anyway, how wonderful. Well done Cam (and well played Liam also).
