Garcia is into the last 8 after a comfortable win today. Looks like her late run of form will take this battle a little further.
I said at the time Jo was fortunate to beat Garcia at Wimbledon and I believe going forward Garcia is the better player. On form she has as perfect a game as you can get in women's tennis. I expect to see her challenging next year for Slams.

You and Andy both
Although she's said that Andy's comments have been a bit of a weight around her neck....
But, yes, she's always been my favourite French women (of her generation). (You can keep Cornet, Kiki, etc.). Great tennis. And a nice person (in a classy, slightly reserved sort of way).
But got to root for Jo to get the eighth place, it's the British tennis forum after all
The latest update for the ATP/WTA Live App now has the Women's race to Singapore for singles and that other sport added now which is handy for easy access.
Garcia still alive after a nervy final set that went to the tiebreak. Svitolina served for the match twice in the final set yet barely won a point in those games, then had mp in the tiebreak during a bizarre spell of big serving from both players.
Only her 2nd top 10 win this year, with 2 over players ranked 11-20. 11 losses against top 20 opponents, only 2 of which were 3 set matches. Her schedule in 2017 has probably hindered her chances of making the top 8, with some strange choices, visiting Kuala Lumpur prior to Indian Wells then going back on to the clay after Wimbledon when she was hardly that impressive during the main clay season.
JoKo 4 top 10 wins and 5 against players ranked 11-20 this year.

Garcia is becoming a tad annoying but still rather impressive to win through like that after all the matches she's won. I guess it's momentum vs accumulation and could continue to be so.
So it will go beyond Beijing.
1) If Garcia exits to Kvitova in the SF, the post Beijing race points will be : Konta 3610, Garcia 3185, still 425 points behind and a lot still to do. Allowing for her two lowest counters being dropped to let new ones in, Garcia would have to win the Moscow Premier and reach an International final next week even if Jo adds zero. It doesn't work if she reverses these.
3185 -+ ( 180 + 470 ) - ( 95 + 100 ) = 3640 and so beating 3610
2) If Garcia is runner up, the post Beijing points will be : Konta 3610, Garcia 3445, so just 165 points behind, If Konta doesn't add Garcia can do this in just one further event:
Winning an International title: 3445 + 280 - 95 = 3630 Reaching the Moscow Premier final: 3445 + 305 - 95 = 3655 Or some combination from the two, though bearing in mind she'd then have to drop her 100 point counter as well..
3) If Garcia wins the Beijing title, she moves ahead so has the ball in her court: Konta 3610, Garcia 3795, 185 points ahead. With Konta definitely not playing next week at least, even if Garcia scored not a further point after a title win this week, Konta would need to reach the Moscow Premier final.
And I see she has beaten Ostapenka to do do... Well congratulations to her, she deserves it, even if I'm sure what she would really like most is that first grand slam win, and the more critical match against Ostapenko in the French Open final will still really rankle with Halep.
Garcia marches on,beats Kvitova 6-3 7-5
Still a lot to do to catch Jo, Halep in fine form first, and Sharapova first round next week (if she doen't win tomorrow)
My scenario 1) above remained a very big ask, but scenario 2) that at worst she has moved on to is much more manageable. She could lose to both Halep and Sharapova and still make Singapore, and she would then have about a week of recovery time before Moscow. Though yes it would leave Jo still a fair bit ahead and would be in her ( rather fragile at the moment ) hands if they both then played the Moscow Premier.
Trust Simona will remain very focused after having confirmed #1. No time to go out on the lash.
