Five of our seven main draw and qualifying acceptances for the US Open start their preparations here and have reasonable first tound draws (Barnaby Smith joins them in Canada, and Katie Swan in New York). Emily's opponent has lost to a number of Brits, including Emily, over the last year
This hasn't been a great tournament for Brits - all out of the singles events after two rounds

R2

Emily playing to her strength here - reaching the doubles final with a 6-1 6-1 victory over the top seeds. That's her 4th G1 final this year. Her doubles partner Jaimee is also through to the singles final (also beating the number 1 seed) against young Cori (who must be one of the youngest ever G1 finalists)
Emily claims her second G1 doubles title of the year (her partner beat Coco to do the double). It edges her a little nearer to the top 8 for the Chengdu Masters. Having pulled out of the Canadian G1 she will need to either reach the QF stage in New York (singles) or win the doubles to have a realistic chance of making the top 8 or so
Girls Doubles F
(3) Appleton/Fourlis (GBR/AUS) d. Cho/Cho (TPE) 6-1 6-3
Gauff came up short in the final, losing 64 64. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova won a G1 as a 13 year-old, but I think she was a few months older than Cori is now. Michelle Larcher de Brito made a G1 semifinal and quarterfinal and won a G2 as a 13 year old. Michaella Krajicek won three(!) G1s and two(!) GAs before even turning 14!
