That's a nice starter.
Massive ramp up in difficulty next round, as it's young phenom, and home favourite, Andreescu, fresh of her QF run in Washington, which included an easy, and genuiune, win over Mladenovic; or steady grinder, eighth seed Kovinic.
Courts should suit Naomi, but that's still a tricky test.

Poor Naomi - that was an excellent win against Arantxa Rus, and so disappointing to have to pull out injured today.
Has anyone heard what the injury is? Hope it doesn't keep her out of the US Open - she is one of the first reserve players to gain direct entry for main draw (5th alternate when I last looked), and even if she has to come through qualifying, I thought she would have a good chance of making it through to the main draw.
That's a good point, perhaps a surfeit of caution to ensure that she does have a chance to preserve her participation, under whatever entry, at Flushing Meadows.
In other news, there was anothe Brit retirement, but this time in our favour, as Jo/Je/ss benefitted from a RET to move into the doubles SF.
QF: Rae/Moore (GBR/AUS) [4] defeated Rus/Zanevska (NED/BEL) 2-1 RET
