It seems to be the ATP 1000 that year on year looses the most top players. A blue collar mid western city in the dog days of summer, not the most appetising proposition for the east coast humidity of the US Open.
Yuichi Sugita has defeated Khachanov, following wins over Sock and Kyle's conqueror Sousa, to emerge as QFist from that section of the draw. Plays Dimitrov next.
(7) Dimitrov and (14) Isner are the only remaining seeds in the bottom half of the draw with Isner still to play his L16 match against Tiafoe, conqueror of Sasha Zverev.
There are also actually only 3 remaining seeds in the other half at the L16 stage, though that does include (1) Nadal and (3) Thiem, each playing later. The 3rd, (11) Carreno Busta is a set and a break down to Ferrer.

Interestingly Cincinnati kicking off Friday proceedings from 11 am local with this doubles QF and the Muguruza vs Kuznetsova singles QF with still a total of 5 men's and women's singles L16 matches either not yet started at all or suspended in their early stages.
Don't know if these facing potentially two singles matches today still requested not too early a start having no doubt hung around until fairly late yesterday. Anyway no singles L16 match due before 1 pm local
Jamie & Bruno have yet to win a masters title ( indeed Jamie has still to win one with anyone ). They are rather better at winning Slams. And while there could be worse issues it would be good to win this one. And then win another Slam too !
So the last two standing in singles are Kyrgios and Dimitrov, at least quite interesting. I felt Kyrgios should be favourite based on talent and assumed focus here and saw on bet365 he was at 4/6. Actually now slightly stronger at 8/13 vs 13/10.
Doubles final at 5.15 pm BST, on the Grandstand court for some reason, with the singles finals on Center from 7pm BST.
