Not trying to get ahead of myself in any way (he lied) but Federer, who has just withdrawn, was in Kyle's section of the draw.
If Kyle can get past Sousa, he will probably face a rematch with Jack Sock, whom he beat comfortably in their last meeting. Next up would have been Federer, but will now be one from Schwartzman, Khachanov or (LL) Fabiano.
Ok, ok. Let's deal with Sousa first. Match should be on in about an hour. In the preceding match, Krueger has just taken the first set from Paire 6-2
Edmund had a wonderful opportunity to make the QFs here and blew it with another three set loss. The fact that he continues to loss so many 3 setters doesnt augur well.
His career seems to be flatlining and he's yet to string a run of results together that would suggest he'll get anywhere close to the top 20.
Too many errors off straightforward balls, and a lack of tactical nous or an alternative game plan. Let's hope that some progress can be made to improve that in the next ten days.
