Gutted for Jodie. I'm half thinking it might be better for her to wait for her PR, and don't rush the return. It will be very tricky for her to rebuild her ranking after this set-back.
Jodie is out for the whole grass season. From her Instagram:-
"As much as I'm trying to be positive about my situation, I'm absolutely gutted to be sitting on the side lines for the grass court season this year. Near full rupture of my ATFL ankle ligament and torn retinaculum will keep me out for a while, no surgery required but I do need to take time to let it heal which will involve missing all grass tournaments and Wimbledon. It truely kills me not to compete but my body just won't allow it right now. I'm going to use this time to rehab my wrist and ankle properly, and to get in the best shape I can before I return.
Thank you for all the kind messages over the last few weeks, it means the world to me.
Let's get behind the rest of the brits this summer! "
According to the WTA, her last match was QR1 in San Diego at the end of February. So she could get a SR of 86 (I think) if she's out for six months i,e, early September.
Such a shame for Jodie, I hope she is able to take the full 6 months off at this point, and avoid rushing into a return. It's a shame to miss such a big part of the season, and defending so much - but she's a player who is capable of going on a run, and I think it's the best way to get her ranking back up to where it belongs. She has done so well to have climbed as high as she can, and I certainly believe she can do it again, but needs to be fit. Good luck Jodie, and we will looking forward to seeing you soon.
