Some good results for our Tennis Europe under 14 team in round 1, with Joel Pierleoni ousting the Swedish top seed and Harry Lazell beating the Czech 5th seed. Jack Pinnington Jones lost though to Bradley Buckland

Those are certainly impressive wins by Joel and Harry (both born 2003), against players ranked JWR 585 and 755.

And in patriotic style, nice to see five foreign players put out yesterday, and only two come through.

Tad must have improved a lot since I last saw him. Lost in qualifiers to Toby Samuel at the Wirral.

Ah, but how did he lose? As Josh Goodall says, it's not really the result that counts.

And he did win the doubles title at the Wirral.

I know nothing about Tad, except what I read on his crowdfunding page (when he was 15) which included the fact that he's being brought up by his single mum, comes from Cornwall and travels by himself quite a lot of the time (it's a long way from Cornwall to pretty much anywhere else).

Good luck to him, and young Welshman James Story, in the final today.
