Girls: 2017 Wimbledon Juniors, grass - Grade A (Week 28)

Encouraging at least that Ali was able to play doubles after her singles fall. Katie's doubles is third on Court 18, so should be streamed

Doubles R1 (L32)

(1) Branstine/Kostyuk (CAN/UKR) d. (WC) Budin/Maloney 6-2 6-1
(8) Arango/Douglas (COL/USA) d. (WC) Fischer/Raducanu 7-5 6-3
(4) McNally/Osuigwe d. Appleton/Burrage 4-6 6-4 6-3
(5) Wang/Wang (CHN) d. (WC) Collins/Jones 7-5 7-5
(3) Day/Swan (USA/GBR) d. Jain/Yadav (IND) 6-1 6-1
Portillo Ramirez/Sewing (MEX/USA) d. (WC) Adeshina/Heath 6-4 7-5

R2

Niemeier/Vismane (GER/LAT) v (3) Day/Swan (USA/GBR)

Four quite close losses, there, which given that most of them involved very high-ranked players against far lower-ranked GB players is encouraging.

R2: Niemeier/Vismane (GER/LAT) beat (3) Day/Swan (USA/GBR) 6-3 6-3

Kayla, the #1 seed in the singles, had earlier lost her singles QF to fellow American, Ann Li.

(3) Claire Liu (USA) is the only seed to reach the SFs. There are two Americans, a Swiss and a Russian.

An all-American final, potentially confusingly between Li and Liu. Claire Liu was expected to reach the final by most keen observers, and is bidding to be the third player in the last 4 years to do a Roehampton/Wimbledon double. Ann Li beat Eliz in round 2 and wasn't on my radar

Claire Liu achieves the double. I joined the match with her serving for the title at 6-2 5-4, but she failed to convert three championship points and was clearly struggling to cope with the pressure (perhaps with memories of the unexpected loss to Osuigwe in Paris) - broken again in a very scrappy end to the set (5-7). Claire reestablished control in set 3 and came through 6-2, but this didn't appear to be one of the best Wimbledon girls finals

A bit late this, but I haven't been well these past few days so not been around on the forums.

Here's my piece I did on Anna Loughlan following her R1 loss. Obviously nerves got the better of her early on, but she has a good attitude, no doubt.

Thanks Marc - hopefully Anna's first Wimbledon experience will stand her in good stead for future big matches in front of 3 figure crowds.
