Sewing breaks with some big decisive hitting and takes the match. A big ros to win one point. A brief rally with another big winner. She stepped in and took it from her. An entertaining, absorbing match where both girls took turns to shine. Tough on Ali because tough on whoever lost, and we don't know hom much the injury hampered her in the end. She can hold her head high.
Well done to Emma. Showed good positive energy too from the last bit I saw.
Pity for Ali, a really fluctuating match that could have gone either way. The fall didn't help though that point had put her 15-30* down in the game she lost as she served for the match ( physio did appear by the way but she seemed to feel that she'd pretty much recovered by then and they just had a few words ). She did regroup well and was moving pretty well although as often with these things seemed to walk less well. And she certainly looked as if she should have lost it earlier with that drop shot that looked out.
After several close losses for GB girls today, Emma Radacanu cantered through her match 6-1 6-3.
Well done, Emma !
We haven't had too much to get excited about so far in the girls, although there's been a couple of close matches. (Emily App obviously won but, then, on ranking she'd supposed to win several rounds and make the quarters).
So great to see young Emma give us something to smile about....
Katie wasn't convincing in the bit I saw of her match, but hopefully a win will give her some confidence after a testing grass court season. Emma takes on one of the Roehampton semifinalists
