Week 26 - ITF ($100K + H) - Southsea, Great Britain Grass

Much better by Laura indoors, unless the grass courts are pure and the bounces are consistent, and given it's a new venue, I wouldn't be surprised if there was an issue there, going indoors would be to Laura's advantage. Had a lot of chances to get back in the 3rd, more points, more encouragement, but no ranking points, definitely chances of sneaking a win next week.

Alexandrova's first grass match of the year, and only 7th ever. Chances, chances...

Have a feeling in my bones that Ms. Boulter will overcome Petko next.

Although two of the sets were indoors, so inexperience on grass isn't really a pointer.

I'm afraid Katie is already 0-3 down, and they're playing indoors.

My prediction already looks awful

I had meant that the move indoors rather limited Ms. Robson's chance to exploit the Russian inexperience on grass, but readily concede, that my phrasin left that ellipsis stretched way too thin to be readily apparent.

Laura won more points in the match and the 5 break points in the third set were across 3 different games, so she had her chances as has been the case for all her recent matches. Maybe she is due a bit of luck and will get it at Wimbledon, but she needs a kind draw first.

Reviewing DavidC's earlier posted article on the genesis of this tournament, it seems all the more crazy really that a limited field 100 + H tournament was held here, as the first tournament to be held on these new courts. It seems they could well have done with the experience of holding a lower key 15k or 25k tournament on the courts first to see how they played and held up to various weather conditions. Indoor is all very well, but that's not Wimbledon practice.

Katie seems to have lost a bit of her Far East form, I wonder whether she's picked up a niggle. Petko was solid at Ilkley last week, but certainly not anywhere near her previous heights.

As I feared, the Pitak sisters lost 0 & 2 to the top seeds.

Jos and Laura on court now *1-1
