Johanna further re-writing the post Wade GB women's tennis history.
She wins against a creditable Rybarikova - who none of the seeds will want want to face early at SW19 - and into the final, 6-2 7-5

Is that our first singles WTA finallist in a domestic event since Virginia?

I think the last one was Jo Durie (Brighton on carpet in October 1983 losing to Chris Evert-Lloyd)

Good to see Laura completely focused on making the doubles final here as well, without being distracted by Birmingham

Thanks for that.

So, 'only' in the last 34 years then, ratehr than 40.
As Jo lost that final, I think the last GB winner of a domestic WTA singles event was Sue Barker in 1981, also in Brighton.
Unless anyone knows different.

Either way, about time for a new chapter...

And Jo wins. Looked good. A little worried about her schedule in that she's playing something like 5 weeks in a row. If she wins the title here, should consider skipping Brum?

Yes, none of the other top 10 players have been playing this week apart from Cibulkova, who wasn't playing for long.

A week off then Eastbourne and Wimbledon sounds a plan.

Cibulkova won the doubles with Flipkens in Hertogenbosch today, so has been keeping her eye in

Thanks for the 1983 stat, David (saves me checking and it makes sense - I can't think of another since)

I think the 1981 stat is correct too - a journo tweeted 1975 for that one, which of course made no sense anyway given a certain big title won by Wade in 1977 - he claims he was given the 1975 stat by Nottingham, who'd got it from the LTA. No comment!

Leave the LTA alone, they employ very little backroom staff on low salaries  no

Not a huge shock; there must be some level of exhaustion.

On the other hand, congratulations to Ms Rae and Ms Robson, the latter in her first tour-level final since 2013.

Not to be a 3/4 Brit final. Jo & Yanina lose 6-1 3-6 [10-6]

Now have a rest, Jo, and all the best for tomorrow and to Joss & Laura.

I've been out for most of the day and missed the action.
Well done to all the ladies!
