Tennis Sponsors

Re Sutton British Tour event and the huge £14,300 total prize pot with 2k for winners and 1k for finalists, it is worth giving a shout out to the main sponsors:

"The club continue to enjoy a close relationship with our sponsors and wish to thank and acknowledge:

Boadicea the Victorious, BSF Construction, Harley Medical, Sports Maintenance & ICB Group."

With 11 year-old Ben Gusci-Wan making the finals of the top U12 event at Auray today, just to mention that both he and Viktor Frydrych are sponsored as part of the new high-profile Lacoste/Technifibre initiative which has taken 6 very promising boys (different European nationalities) and is providing training camps, as well as equipment, and everything they can to try and make them top champions.

I'm sure there are plenty of other sponsors but just to mention one of Jay Clake's, Morecrofts, "leading provider of electrical and mechanical services to the construction industry and development sectors". Well done that firm !

As the new elite junior tennis academies kick off this year, a little shout-out to French Connection (or Marks personally, not sure which):

Regarding Ranah Stoiber, one of our most promising youngsters:

"And for Ranahs development to this stage, we have to credit Stephen Marks [the head of French Connection, who supports the tennis set-up at Dukes Meadows in Chiswick, west London]. He put a lot of personal support in because she is one of four siblings with a single mother.

Wow I wouldn't think Dukes Meadows would be a place to go if you were struggling financially. It's very expensive for pay-as-you-go and there's no membership options.

It is eye-wateringly expensive to be coached on their indoor courts on an hourly basis.  However, those who are part of their 'Academy Squad' I believe are charged on a different basis which is more cost effective - annually or per-term I think.  They can also use any empty courts for practice without paying.  I am aware that in the past some promising youngsters have been given a special deal to enable them to be part of the academy group.  No idea how big a discount they had or whether it was funded by Stephen Marks (a well known complete tennis nut - and regular player) or in some other way, but all help should be applauded.

It's not the UK but it may well have quite a game-changing effect on UK players too, so hats off to Oracle:

Excerpts from the NY Times:

"In a move expected to significantly increase opportunities for developing American tennis players, Oracle, the computer technology company, intends to create and fund a large circuit of lower-tier professional tournaments in the United States.

The circuit, which will be called the Oracle Pro Series and begin in full next year, will comprise approximately 25 new womens tournaments and 25 new mens tournaments.

Most will be staged as combined events, many of them on college campuses. Prize money is expected to range from $25,000 to $108,000 per tournament. All of the tournaments will provide ATP or WTA ranking points, which are critical to players attempting to make the leap to the main tours.

....

Courier compared it to the system in Italy, which added many lower-level tournaments in recent years...."

A shout out to Hampton Homes who, seemingly, are a sponsor of Felix Gill, who will be our top junior ranked boy next week, helping to fund international travel and accommodation.

I don't know quite what it gives them but Amazon Prime are seemingly supporting several of our top youngsters, so good for them:

I think they get £60k to help support them, plus mentoring from Andy Murray. The other guys get £5k.

I was just googling who Stephen Marks was (CEO of French Connection fashion) and found this, seems like a big scandal with the former head of tennis at Dukes Meadows.

 Thanks.

And Ace Ventura has put more details in Emma Rad's own thread

I was thinking it could have gone on a number of threads, like strategy ones, their respective current tournamanet threads etc. and I did atually check this thread as I assumed it might have been the reason for the bump, briefly saw the CEO part and link, thought and thought that had nothing to do with it, and moved on, without checking the above posts, ha.

I know! Like you, I wasn't sure where to put it smile

But your one is far more detailed, and - from my experience, at least - having it in a couple of different places is no bad thing. More chance of finding it again, in a year's time!

Just a little mention of CASS & Friends (Cotswold Athletes Support Scheme) which was set up by Fiona Carter in 2015 to assist young athletes in the Cotswolds financially with their training and participation in Olympic sports and became a charity in 2017 which is sponsoring Olivia Rook (and other athletes)
