RE: Andy ankle Injury

My view on this is quite simple.

If playing while not 100% means that Andy will have to play through the pain barrier then I think he should play. The nature of the tie and the fact that so many people have paid just to watch Andy play does demand he be willing to make some sacrifice.

If however playing would carry a reasonable risk of doing further damage it would be totally unfair to expect him to play.

Absolutely. Most sensible comment I've seen on here and pretty reflective of the comments I've picked up on. Some people on this forum don't seem to like the idea that a lot of juniors will be disillusioned if Andy doesn't play when he could. The same views are cropping up on the BBC tennis messageboard.

Hey, I too think that's a very good comment from RJA.

Dashers, I maybe misinterpreted you when you were saying he should play 'unless he is totally crocked'.  I was under the impression that you thought he should play for the fans almost no matter what. The above ties in with my view that he should not play 'if the medics think there is a fair chance he could cause himself further damage'.

I always felt he should play if he could, and indeed was sure he would if he could.  I just didn't want to see him risking his future.

So hopefully, peace reigns

It's looking quite hopeful that he will play, so hopefully all's well that ends well.

Then all we need is  VICTORY !

I think that Andy will play if it's at all possible for him to do so, he's aware of the importance of this tie to tennis in Scotland and he's desperate to become the first Scot to represent the Davis Cup team for a tie held in Scotland. The major worry is that he's only been well enough to come through a couple of light training sessions and so he could come into this tie undercooked and also we don't know how his ankle will stand up to the rigours of possbily 2 best of 5 set matches.

The major problem is Andy's ankle, the press were keen to cover it up but the news leaked through last week that there has been ligament damage which sounds quite serious. I would rather that Andy didn't play if he was going to risk long-term injury.

Absolutely, any decision to play if the medics reckoned there was such a risk would be extremely foolish.

It would, of course, be very disappointing to all these fans who bought tickets hoping to see Andy in action, so I very much hope it doesn't come to that, and that there is a positive diagnosis in the next few days.
