A big well done, then, to young Tannysha (born 2001, JWR 1463), who beat the JWR 366 (amongst others) in qualifyng.

As she (I believe) is a Brit but not part of the elite LTA/NTC group out there, I do hope the powers that be saw a bit of her match.

Anton's opponent is the French boy, a year older than Anton, and already about 6 ft 8 or so, as well as reigning under 16 boys' champion in France.

Nice scores from Ali and Jake.

Ali's opponent was last years runner up.

Yes, its going to be tough, Paula Arias Manjon beating Emily in the G1 in March this year and beating Maia Lumsden in a GA in London last July - Paula was last years runner up!

Finn Bass beat Jake's opposition early last year in 3 sets in New Delhi, India. - That's all the british competition Jake's opponent has come up against.

I think they've got it in them. C'mon Jake & Ali! smile

Good stuff by Ali, hope she can follow it up. She has in general terms fallen a bit behind Fran Jones from the 2000 borns and I would guess she hoped for more from the last year or so.

But still so young and moves forward and consolidations will be hugely variable at that age.

I saw her in the Glasgow 15K early in the year and for the most part I was quite impressed. She will hopefully in time calm her emotions more and move on better from point to point, but also retain a feistiness that was on display.

I didn't manage to see her in Glasgow but from the sounds/looks of things she is improving. Onwards and upwards!

My take on Ali is not that she's 'improving', as such.
I saw her a couple of years ago, at the Bank of England club, and was very impressed. She was one of those who stood out (especially given her age - although Fran wasn't there so no comparison).
Not based on much, but my belief is that it was a big move, in terms of tennis and life, to up sticks and relocate to the States. And that it's just taken a bit of time for her to adjust to new technique, tactics, training habits, as well as normal life routines.

I've seen Ali play a handful of times in the past couple of years and I have to say, I do think her all round game is improving.

Then you're probably right, Tennischamp.

Although, you'd hope that anyone who is only 16 or so is 'improving' - I mean, do you mean on an absolute basis or on a relative basis?

Because any young player must be improving on an absolute basis, it's a given (apart from in very bizarre circumstances).

I meant, on a relative basis, and from what I saw last time, I would still put her in the same category as I did when I saw her three years ago (i.e. high).

Unfortunately Max loses out to his Spanish opponent 6-4 6-3.
