Boys & Girls: Copenhagen Winter Cup, Denmark, hard - Grade 4 (Week 7)

Emma Raducanu goes for a second successive G4 title, but has a tough draw against the top seed, a finalist at last year's week 2 of the Nottingham Open. However the two have experienced opposites in 2017 juniors with Emma having won all her matches and Clara having lost hers (G1/2)

Boys R1 (L32)

(4) Emile Hudd v Q

Girls R1 (L32)

(1) Clara Tauson (DEN) v Emma Raducanu

(5) Anna Loughlan v (Q) Hanna Schmidt Axelsson (SWE)

Interesting? Probably not the kindest 1st round draw for Clara.

Yes interesting, very interesting ...

Clara very precocious herself in her tennis development, JWR 202 ( though not really produced at above Grade 4 level ) and actually a month younger than Emma, 21/12/02 against 13/11/02. Clara has clearly a lot more ITF experience and counters, Emma from her own very small sample appears on the face of it to have been at least as impressive.

Emma herself should jump about 200 places to the low 400s with her Grade 4 title in Germany.

The top 2002's are beginning to show themselves, looks like Clara didn't have it all her own way, my feeling is Emma will get a few more shots at her over the next decade or so.

Yes, look forward to more Tauson vs Raducanu meetings with a different result

I thought it might be close, indeed possibly closer than it ultimately was. They are clearly both very good, but as I indicated Tauson's ranking is much more based on her quantity of success at Grade 4 level than anything much at higher level. So on the face of it Emma, with her grade 4 results in just a few ITF weeks, looked competitive.

Possibly ultimately a combination of the extra experience and home soil told.

As well as winning the doubles title with her fellow Dane, Clara Tauson has proceeded to reach the singles final losing 7 games in total in 6 sets after the 10 games she lost in a 3 setter in R1 against Emma.

It would have been good if their meeting had happened later in the week, but it was still interesting to see how they matched up.

Neither player I would imagine will play too much grade 4 tennis anymore

Clara Tauson duly completed the double, winning the singles final 6-2 6-1, so lost a total of 10 games in the four rounds following the 10 she lost to Emma in R1.
