Boys & Girls - Yonex ITF, Hamburg - hard - Grade 4 (Week 6)

Probably the best marker of current form is the end of year Orange bowl (U14) performances of both Holly (seeded 2) and Emma (7) who both lost in the semi-finals to girls playing regularly at Grafe 1 and A, a tournament that generally contains in its field most of the best U14 in any given year.

Nice win for Harry who doesn't turn 16 until December against a top seed who is 16 months older. Good to see a group of players doing progressing so well at a time when GCSE's are only on the distant horizon. It should be enjoyable watching the results of these guys through a summer (or Emma's case 2) when they can really give tennis plenty of attention.

Brilliant ! Well done, both kids.

And their parents/coaches/teachers and whole teams.

Great week in Germany for our youngsters.

Often feel poor Harry (Dec. 2001) must be a bit in the shadow of Jack and Anton - an unnaturally good 2001 'crop' - so pleased for him to have his moment too. And with George Lof. (another 2001) also having a great run in juniors these past few weeks, (and Anton winning some ITS quali matches) it's been a really positive month or two.

And Emma certainly went through that draw like a dose of salts - very nicely done, not losing a set. Couldn't have done it any better....

Well done both

Emma, having just turned 14 in November now has a record from her total of 5 junior ITF events: G5 winner, G4 runner up, G4 runner up, G4 QF, G4 winner.

And yes Harry, just turned 15 in December, looks as if he could at least maybe back up a strong 2001 crew. Looks like GB could maybe be junior Davis Cup 2017 contenders. Been a while.

A prosperous extended half term for both. More of the same in Copehagan perhaps? It's just across the water from Hamburg. Another G4 next week.

Here's my piece on Harry, our local player, winning at Hamburg and in the Winter Cup.

Hope it's of interest.
