In the G4 in New Zealand, young Kiana Mokhtari (born 2002), playing her first ITF junior event, came through qualis, and won her first main draw match:
Unfortunately for Kiana winning in the round of 64 doesn't earn her any points and get her into the rankings (really the main point of a first tournament as being ranked makes it SO much easier to enter future events). Hopefully she'll get a play in the dubs to have another bite at the cherry.
If I were Kiana's parent or coach, I wouldn't be fussed that she hadn't got any ranking points in her first tournament, I'd just be happy that she'd got a couple of nice wins and that it had been a pleasant experience (assuming it was). But I know what you mean, it'd be nice to have just a couple, all the same.
