In the G4 in New Zealand, young Kiana Mokhtari (born 2002), playing her first ITF junior event, came through qualis, and won her first main draw match:

R2 (L32): Natasha RUSSELL (AUS)     6-0 6-1     Kiana MOKHTARI (GBR)

In the Boys, Julian Lewis made the last 16:

R1: Julian LEWIS (GBR) [14]     6-0 6-3     Hamish ARBUCKLE (NZL)

R2 : Julian LEWIS (GBR) [14]     6-4 1-6 6-2     Donghyeon KIM (KOR)

R3 (L16): Cihan AKAY (AUS)     6-3 6-4     Julian LEWIS (GBR) [14]

Donia Abdel-Aziz was second seed in the G5 event in Bosnia/H but lost out in R1:

R1: Jovana BABIC (SRB)     6-4 6-3     Donia ABDEL-AZIZ (GBR) [2]

The G4 event in Czech Rep. also kicks off today, with Aidan McHugh and Hamish Stewart being seeded 1 and 2 respectively.

Unfortunately for Kiana winning in the round of 64 doesn't earn her any points and get her into the rankings (really the main point of a first tournament as being ranked makes it SO much easier to enter future events).  Hopefully she'll get a play in the dubs to have another bite at the cherry.

If I were Kiana's parent or coach, I wouldn't be fussed that she hadn't got any ranking points in her first tournament, I'd just be happy that she'd got a couple of nice wins and that it had been a pleasant experience (assuming it was). But I know what you mean, it'd be nice to have just a couple, all the same.

In the Czech Rep:

R1 (L32):

Aidan MCHUGH (GBR) [1] 6-0 6-4 Vitek HORAK (CZE)
Hamish STEWART (GBR) [2] 6-2 6-3 Marek PODLESAK (CZE)

Poor scheduling from the organisers to go grade 1 then grade 4 in consecutive weeks...
