I watched a fair bit of Millie's match and she shouldn't really have lost that match. But tennis at that age is a learning thing and she plays with a lot of intent, which is good.

Poor Louis got given short shrift by the top seed (who is Danish, I believe), losing 0 & 0

But Derrick won 6-3 6-4

It's great, isn't it? Right up there with Kylie Bilchev's first opponent. I was thinking what filling out forms must be like for them both ...

Louis is struggling with illness - don't read too much into that result

Bit weird that he was playing then.... why would they do that?

I've seen Louis play on livestream several times and he's got some nice bits to his game. Mind you, the young Dane might have zillions of nice bits to his so I've no idea about how the two should match up.

For those who remember the story of the little 'prodigy', well, he's here again.

Young César Bouchelaghem, born 2004 (which is one year younger than most here), won his first round match today at the Petits As.

He's the (joint) top-ranked player in France for his age.

He's also in his second year of his Bac, i.e. the 16-17 years-old year (second year of 'A' levels, if A levels were a three year course).

AND he's doing Bac S (i.e. the full-blown science academic one).

Supposedly he was sat waiting for his match, reading his set texts for his French Bac (which you do a year early, so he'll be doing this May).

All faintly nauseating really bless 'im.....

Just Derrick left after round 2 to take on Martin Damm Junior. Few of the Eastern European girls come to Bolton, and they have shown their strength in depth here, accounting for most of the top Americans as well as Kylie, with at least one Eastern European (mainly Russians) in all 8 third round matches. Kylie has teamed up with star Noa Krznaric in the doubles, and the pair are going strongly

Boys R2

(4) Luca Nardi (ITA) d. Joel Pierleoni 6-3 7-5
(10) Derrick Chen d. (WC) Milo Gazivoda (MNE) 6-2 6-0

R3

(6,WC) Martin Damm (USA) v (10) Derrick Chen

Girls R2

Vladislava Petrovskaia (RUS) d. (11) Kylie Bilchev 6-0 6-3

Derrick had a comfortable passage to the quarter-finals with his opponent struggling and eventually retiring. Kylie and Noa are on court now in their doubles quarter-final and are a set up.

Boys R3

(10) Derrick Chen d. (6,WC) Martin Damm (USA) 6-1 4-1 rtd

QF

(10) Derrick Chen v (3) Hamad Medjedovic (SRB)

End of the line for both Derrick and Kylie (losing to the top seeded Russians in doubles). From the little I saw of it the Serb appeared tall for his age and prepared to take risks, so Derrick was having to do a lot of scrambling, but competed well

QF

(3) Hamad Medjedovic (SRB) d. (10) Derrick Chen 3-6 6-3 6-4
