A bizarre day with most of the seeds losing - meaning a good result for Anna, but defeats to lucky losers for Ali and Gemma . It means Ali has only won 3 matches in her last 8 junior tournaments

Girls R1 (L32)

(LL) Clarisse Benoit (FRA) d. (1) Ali Collins 6-0 6-4
Anna Loughlan d. (3) Loudmilla Bencheikh (FRA) 7-5 6-1
(LL) Chloe Cirotte (FRA) d. (5) Gemma Heath 6-4 6-4

R2

Anna Loughlan v (Q) Alice Tubello (FRA)

As you say, DavidC, Ali has been having a run of poor form recently.

And that loss to Clarisse has nothing to dilute it.

Clarisse is born in Dec. 2001, a Lucky Loser, didn't do much in the national championships, has some reasonable wins but ....

To be honest, though, Chloe Cirotte is slightly worse. One ranking level lower, also born 2001, and Gemma beat her easily over in Rabat recently.

Mind you, young Loudmilla is a bit of a star (although a slightly up and down star) so that's a very nice win for Anna.

An early end to British interest, though Anna did make the doubles semis before exiting a few minutes ago

Boys R2

(1) Carlos Lopez Montagud (ESP) d. Luke Simkiss 6-4 6-4

Girls R2

(Q) Alice Tubello (FRA) d. Anna Loughlan 6-7(5) 6-1 6-3
