Girls: Bahia Juniors Cup, Brazil, clay - Grade 3 (Week 42)

As we only had two starters here, I'd normally have put it in an 'other' thread.

But with so many youngsters playing in the half-term week(s) (or pre-half term week), all the events have their own threads. So here's Brazil on its own.

And it warrants one as, being a G3, points are high and young Erika, for instance, is going to have a big jump in the rankings, thanks just to her R1 win.

R1 (L32):

Erika BATISTA DODRIDGE (GBR) (born 2001)     6-7(4) 6-0 6-1     MARIA FERNANDA MENEZES (BRA)

Erika Wichin CHENG (BRA)     6-1 6-0     Kelly ARAUJO (GBR)

Erika gets the top seed next, age 17 and JWR 60, which will be a tougher ask:

R2 (L16):

Thaisa Grana PEDRETTI (BRA) [1] JWR 60   v   Erika BATISTA DODRIDGE (GBR)

It's Erika's fourth ITF in Brazil, the country where she was born - and she describes herself as half-Brazilian. There's an interesting article about her time at the Kim Clijsters Academy last year at www.tennishead.net/news/academy/2015/11/28/kim-clijsters-academy-a-players-view

Very interesting read, DavidC. Many thanks for putting that up. Confirms a lot of what I've heard about the academy (and the British ones too, by default).

All the best to her.

As expected, the first seed and top 60 player proved too much for Erika. But it'll be a decent jump in the rankings this week, all the same:

R2 (L16):

Thaisa Grana PEDRETTI (BRA) [1] JWR 60 def. Erika BATISTA DODRIDGE (GBR) 6-0 6-4
