I don't have a good feeling about Katie at the moment. From the time she declared herself a professional and signed with IMG things have not gone well for her. I believe she now spends very little time with the coaches at Wichita instead working more with Julien Picot of the LTA. One of the reasons I felt she shone whilst based in America was that she was away from the LTA goldfish bowl. She was living with her parents, able to take time off for school, rest and injury prevention and to just enjoy her tennis. When younger, before her parents moved abroad, the general perception of Katie was that she was a great player but felt the pressure of being one of the top in her year group. At her age she shouldn't be 'managing injuries' or 'training really hard' through them or embarking on an overseas tour with a shoulder problem clearly enough to limit her serve. She should be taking a few weeks off, working on fitness and spending time with her family. I wonder if the pressure of being back in the spotlight on these shores is encouraging her to take risks with her body now which she may regret as time goes on.

Congratulations to Felix Auger-Aliassime and Kayla Day on taking the singles titles. Felix is the second successive Canadian Grand Slam winner, after Denis Shapovalov at Wimbledon, and only lost 3 games in dispatching Miomir Kecmanovic. Kayla was the player who benefited from Gabi's discomfort at Wimbledon, and she won the battle of 2 players who are mainly on the Pro Circuit, defeating Viktoria Kuzmova (victor against Katie Swan in the Wimbledon quarters last year and already in the WTA top 300) 3 & 2
