Could be a tough match. Tatjana Maria has had some close matches with high-ranked players this year - Jankovic, Cornet, Lucic, Larsson, Mladenovic amongst them.
Laura has now defended her points from last year (net gain of 8 so far) and with no more points to come off until March 2017 and with 3 single pointers and one 3 pointer has lots of opportunity to jump up the rankings -starting of course with today!!
Yes one does wonder about what has so sparked such an improvement, much of the unknown not so much about what she has produced recently but where was it for so very long. The Landisville running down balls and control to take advantage of openings was very good.
It to me has certainly been a lot more than a gradual process and not something I saw coming as it has ( though I have argued in the past there was some gradual progress this recently has been a very big leap comparatively ).
It would appear, as some have suggested, that something, maybe something subconsciously, has caused her to just go for it again and believe. Success can breed more belief can breed more success ...
Long may it continue and build further.
For now 7 successive wins is Laura's best ever as a pro ( she lost her next match after her 2008 Sunderland 10K title ).

Interestingly the bookies have Laura as a slight favourite.
doesn't it depend on where the bookies are? - if they're British-based then they'd obviously expect more action for Laura so her price would fall accordingly
Bit of a shambles as the graphics failed about 2 minutes into the ladies draw, and then failed completely.
Catchphrase of the draw "We OK? We OK to go?"
Yes good looking draws there. And match tight though the qualfiers may be in general such a draw is certainly not one to complain about. Now be largely up to them.
Good luck to Laura later. If she does qualify, I hope she doesn't have to play Heather or Naomi!
From a spead the interest angle no, but to be guaranteed one of Laura and ( Heather or Naomi ) through to R2 wouldn't be the worst thing.
I'll settle for Laura vs Hev or Naomi, not least as it means Laura will win today, and as indy says would guarantee a R2 place which we would all have probably settled for before the draw came out. Anyway Laura has to get one of the Qualifier spots first.
