That was a tough match swinging one way then another. It should give Laura a lot of confidence to have pulled through by raising her game at the end of each set.

Good match apart from the serve, which will hopefully be fixed for tomorrow. Opponent still be determined, match just started.

Another good win for Laura (now 7 in a row and counting), despite struggling on serve still having enough to overcome a top 150 opponent. She won't complain that her FQR opponent is still playing at 1:30 US time either!

A real shame for Tara as the rain break changed the momentum in her match.

Yeah the rain probably changed Taras result. Shame as she was looking really good. And her section was very qualifiable with Georges awaiting. But important she fully recovers and hopefully finishes the year strong.

Well done Laura. Maria will be very tricky.

Well done, Ms Robson. Third match on Court 9 vs Tatjana Maria. Or, to be more formal:

FQR ROBSON, Laura (GBR) WC 247 v MARIA, Tatjana (GER) 15 121

So thrilled for her.  I did wonder whether maybe there was a subconscious impact to seeing JMDP beat Djokovic and Nadal thrive at the Olympics - given they're also wrist injury recovery people and were going all out in a way we haven't seen for JMDP in years.  Noticed on Twitter that Christian Harrison, another serial injury person, also won his first tournament that week.  Does ex-injury success breed ex-injury success?

I can't imagine what it would be like to lose the ability to do what I'd done brilliantly ... and to keep going in hope, in the public eye, trying to get back to where I'd been. Well done to her - and all the best for the next round.

Tough game. Excellent result for a number of reasons, decent opponent on the cusp of GS MD quality and won yet made a significant number of mistakes which I think will get addressed as she gets more games at this level.

I feel that up until Wimbledon she was very much getting her body and fitness right and through August has finally been able to ditch that from.her subconscious ie put that to one side and focus on training and playing to win games.

One more win and to qualify for the MD will put her in a good place by the time the Aussie open comes round.

Yes. No doubt Lottner's coach really went to work on her when they were forced off for rain.

But Tara seems pretty sanguine about the whole thing, tweeting: "Unfortunately wasn't my day today at the @usopen .. now for two weeks mandatory rest to recover from recent events"

Well done to her anyway.

And big congrats to Laura !

What a shame about the rain for Tara. But I think it evens out as to who benefits. I think it was Tara at Wimby? It sounds like she's going to be glad of the rest.

Well done to Laura, who has happily justified her WC. I wonder what has happened to get her head back in? I like Spectator's speculation about injury success breeds injury success, my personal favourite is Tara getting ill in front of her and Laura realising that she needs to grasp it as life/health is short and precious. (A lesson I suspect quite a few of us would benefit from!). I'm happy for her whichever it is

This tournament has been quite orderly for Laura, in that the level of opponent has steadily increased round by round. Tatjana Maria will be another step up from Shinikova, and from what I remember she has a game style that could cause Laura problems (lots of slices & mixing it up). On the other hand, if Laura is hitting the ball well she could overpower Maria so I thinks it's hard to pick a favourite.

The 8:30pm start time is much more UK friendly too.
