More seriously though, congrats to Laura on qualifying and good luck to ALL our plays in MD action at Flushing Meadow.

 

 I think the 'veteran' will be fired up for this one ;) Beechy is sharing coaching duties with Lucie Ahl, so wasn't with her in Landisville, but he's always got on great with Laura, so far so good.

Not sure how much involvement Lucie has had day to day recently. She's co-commentated almost every match last week in Cincy, and again this week in New Haven, on TennisTV.

Great result for Laura and a brilliant change in mindset, clearly.

US Open article said she didn't drop a set in Landisville...she dropped two, no?

Yes, I agree. The first sets in both R32 - 3-6, to Lykina; and R16 - 5-7, to Tara.
She didn't drop a set in USO Q though, which is probably what they meant. Not counting the RET set against Tara, it is a dozen sets in a row.

Aside from her last match against Kayla Day it's not as if Naomi's results and scorelines have been bad since Wimbledon. She's been mixing it very competitively against almost all top 100 or just outside top 100 players with some losses but also wins against Falconi, Gibbs and Puig ( who's done not bad since )

Could do with getting her serve much more consistently back near its best, but she's generally been still at a pretty high relative level.

Laura's done remarkably well of late, seems to be building further on each win  and has a potential very high top level. But Naomi has not been out of place in generally much higher company.

One that I could certainly see going either way and says so much for Laura's latest showings that she has even got to level odds at the bookies.
