Yes, although Andy has no entry points to lose other than his 17th & 18 th best ( 15 & 14 ) to be replaced by Miami & Monte Carlo ( 5 in each at worst ), Massu and Safin are particular dangers for possibly nicking a seeding position at Estoril.
Massu : did not participate in Miami or Monte Carlo last year, although had good enough entry ranking, so defending 0 points from each of these.
Safin : well, he's Safin ! Also, he's not defending too much from Miami and Monte Carlo last year ( 35 and 75 points respectively ), and anything he gets from Valencia or Houston ATP events will be an addition since he's only counting 16 events just now. Now of course, it would be quite helpful if Tim could beat Safin in the 1st round of Miami !
If everyone stays in for Estoril, I suspect Andy may have to win a few rounds at either or both of Miami and Monte Carlo to keep in a seeding position for Estoril. It would be really good to see him seeded.
Rankings wise after they be released on Monday Andy will be 9th best meaning he dropsm out on a seeding although they is strong talk of Baghdatis withdrawing pushing Andy up to 8th seed.
Baghdatis is confirmed out. Hopefully others will follow suit.
At the current moment, here is the rankings of people Andy is competiting for seedings:
1. David Nalbandian - 3 2. Nikolay Davydenko - 6 3. David Ferrer - 12 4. Tommy Robredo - 15 5. Dimitri Tursunov - 33 6. Nicolas Massu - 37 7. Christophe Rochus - 42 8. Andy Murray - 43
So If the seeds went by the Entry List Andy would have been as high as 6 but a seeding is still good hopefully he can get the the quarters where he should and then gain decent points to continue to rise up the rankings.
As expected, Baghdatis has officially pulled out (SteveG) so Andy will be seeded for the first time at an ATP tour event. Lets just hope he doesn't draw someone like Safin in Round 1!!
It is now confirmed on Steveg site that Andy has withdrawn from this tournament. Damn, I was hoping for him to do well here. I hope it is not injury. This is definitely making his chances for seeding at Wimbledon look pretty slim.
Dam and blast...........no more stress next week then !!!
Maybe he has realised that practice might be better now...on that 1st serve !
