The under 14s is the first of the Nationals to get underway at Nottingham (venue for the under 16s and under 18s - the under 12s being in Bournemouth). Several of our top under 14s are missing, leaving Indianna Spink and M J Changwereza as top seeds, both safely through to round 2. The under 18s also has a weakened field, with Ellie Rose Griffiths (through to round 2) and Hannah McColgan as top seeds. Third seed Camille Verden Anderson has been ousted by Erin Richardson though. Hannah McColgan is also one of the top seeds in the under 16s, along with Gemma Heath

I was waiting for you to put these up, David , having been keeping an eye on the results throughout today.
There are still way too many players doubling up for my liking.
But overall it seems, from eyeballing it, that the standard is quite good - i.e. quite a lot of our better players (male and female) are actually taking part.
As has been said before, it would be super easy for the LTA to raise the profile and the standard of these events, to make them truly National Championships that are worthy of the name, if they wanted to.....but seemingly they don't.
However,
QFs for the U18 girls are as follows:
Ellie-Rose Griffiths v Georgie Walker
Alisha Reayer v Kate Malazonia
Anna Loughlan v Megan Davies
Hannah McColgan v Olivia Peet
Of course, half of these girls shouldn't be in this category anyway. And in other categories, the player has lost in her own category but got through in the one above. Which is all a bit ridiculous: it's not supposed to be a match practice exercise (IMHO).
U14 QFs
Indianna Spink v Tiegan Aitken
Lily Mould v Millie Bissett
Morgan Cross v Bella Moen
MJ Changwereza v Holly Staff
(have just figured out that the Megan Davies in the U14 draw is not the same girl......duh......)
NB There's a video thingy of match point - which I find really remarkable not in terms of tennis but in terms of the most amazing lack of ANY real clapping or audience/spectator involvement ..... sad indictment of national championships ..... (or tennis in general)
change: sorry, Indy, can't get the site to paste up so go to Mel South's twitter page and it's near the top
Well done to Megan on winning the gathering of some of our good u-18s in the so-called nationals. Certainly not her fault that the LTA do so little to make more of the nationals and that our generally very top eligible players are not there.
PS: CD, I assume your second link was meant to be different.
