Well, junior interest ending on a Thursday evening ... could be much worse. Especially given that had illness and injury not affected two of our most promising players, interest might still be ongoing. Very impressive last doubles effort.

Anastasia Potapova gets the chance to add the Wimbledon title to Roehampton. The Russian has looked impressive in the snatches I have caught of her and, though Kayla Day wrested the first set from her, she ran away with the other two for the loss of just 2 games. It won't be an all Russian final like last year though, as top seed Olesya Pervushina (who double bageled Sofia Kenin yesterday) lost out in a long match to Jodie's conqueror Dayana Yastremska. However the two Russians are still on course for the doubles title. The singles final is at 1pm on court 1 tomorrow.
An extraordinary end to the girls final. Potapova served for it at 6-4 5-3 and on her fourth matchpoint her serve was called in, so she went to the net for a handshake. Yastremska challenged, more in hope than expectation., and the ball was out. Yastremska won the replayed point. Matchpoint 5, and exactly the same scenario occurred. Showing remarkable composure she shrugged it off to win 6-4 6-3 on matchpoint 7. Not the greatest of finals, but Potapova clearly has the resolve of a champion, though it may take a while for her to develop the game to go with it for the Pro Circuit (she didn't hit a single winner in set 1 to her opponent's 10).
Also posted in the General Discussion section, but some from this side might not see it there. Just to note that I bought the Telegraph this morning (not my paper of choice, but knew they'd have good tennis coverage) and there's an article saying that Gabi Taylor is actually quite ill, in intensive care with a mystery virus: www.telegraph.co.uk/tennis/2016/07/10/british-tennis-hopeful-gabriella-taylor-struck-by-serious-virus/. All best wishes to her and her family - hoping that the doctors will work out what's wrong speedily, and that she will recover quickly.
Thanks Spectator. Very sorry to read this, but see more positive news from the other thread that Gabi has tweeted, and note that her agent has also told the BBC that she "is in a stable condition and improving". May that continue to be the case.
