Gosling Tennis have just tweeted that Ryan twisted his ankle midway through the 1st set, hence the long delay and the eventual retirement. Really gutting to get a bad dose of luck at the biggest tournament of the year, hopefully something he can recover from quickly.
Shame. Good effort. But I'd had hopes on that one....
Luke is on serve with his opponent - there's a lot of potential in his game, things to improve, which will improve - US college seems a sensible choice on his part.
An horrendous day for the boys with one injury and no sets won in singles or doubles

In fairness, the draws in singles, barring the first two, didn't exactly lend themselves to hopes of victory. And given Denis Shapovalov's scores against some quite decent players in Futures tournaments, I wouldn't be too discouraged were I Finn Bass. Ditto Ewan Moore: Blanch defeated Casper Ruud by almost precisely the same score yesterday (though in reverse set order). Overall feels like some quite reasonable performances.
No sets in singles or doubles is pretty horrendous
I thought Ben, Luke and especially Jay had a good chance of progressing in the draw, so a bit disappointing. It was fun watching the youngsters play their doubles and I'm sure they enjoyed the experience but I'd be interested to know why Alexis, Ewan, Max and Luke didn't play doubles, surely they'd have been stronger pairings. Shame about Ryan hope his injury isn't too serious and he's back on court soon.
Interesting chatting....or should I say listening to Alan Jones views on junior tennis he's very negative thinks Wimbledon is a reality check and said the juniors just don't work hard enough, bit harsh in my opinion maybe it's time for him to retire!
Tough day at the office for Brits all around. Having been here personally and watched the boys play, I can say that they all competed really well but none of them could quite close out the matches. I hope all the boys feel encouraged by their performances this Wimby and use it to help them progress in the future when moving into men's/ college tennis.
Re the boys in doubs, I believe they didn't receive Wildcards. There were quite a few pairs and I guess they wanted to give the younger guys their first chance at Wimby. Real shame for Ewan and Alexis as its their last year and they won a round playing together last year.
Re Jay's match- he played some outstanding stuff but gave up the break a little too easy at the key moments.. Not really sure how the Aus Open finalist is considered a good draw but hey ho! Going to take the positives from the grass and get back on it ready for his next tournaments. Onwards and upwards for all the boys and wishing Gabby all the best in the girls draw.
Well not winning a set anywhere is not quite "none of them could quite close out their matches". But probably a point there re sets since quite a number of TBs lost as well as 7-5s.
And today is in many ways made to look much worse just because in singles so many boys did really well to come through to R2 at all, where they generally faced very tough oppnents relative to where they have got to so far. Not getting boys through to R3 is hardly a junior boys problem originating this week.
All the best to Jay. He still seems to stand out a bit along with Ryan and Finn a bit from the slightly younger guys ( although I read some very unconvinced views about Finn ). Again, these guys need real support beyond no doubt the great support families, friends and clubs give, or in the not too many years we could be looking at Kyle, Liam, Cam, maybe say Jonny O'Mara but not much more at a really good level.

Alan Jones, and others, should maybe look to themselves.....
I stood near Jeremy Bates recently, as he watched Katie Boulter, with him complaining constantly to her mother:
'she's SO negative' - humph, gurumph, moan, big sigh ....
'look at her body language, she's just SO negative' - double humph, mutter, dour grumpy look.....
and on and on it went......
The apple doesn't fall far from the coaching tree......
SHE's so negative ? Oh the irony Mr Bates. Anyway, you work on your body language.
What are this man's particular skillsets if motivational is perhaps not one? I believe he oversaw the err interesting training block / competing mixture in Florida in January last year that had seemingly Katy D publicly a bit confused, before a relatively poor follow up period to a good end to 2014, and during which Katie B ( for whatever reason ) developed an injury that kept her out for a year and still endeavouring just to first get back to where she was at the end of 2014.

Yes, as per comment above, I wouldn't be particularly discouraged by the losses - and was very encouraged by the first round. And agree wholeheartedly on the negativity. So destructive. Could we possibly clone Leon Smith? His calm, clear-minded support of his players seems so helpful.
However, I wish his opponent Geoffrey Blancaneaux well.....
I note that he has just passed his Bac (the 'proper' one too), as indeed do all of the players in the French Federation system - it's obligatory (although you can take an extra year to do it if necessary).
And says that it's been a tricky year this year because, not only did he have school and his Bac to revise for and take, and aiming to be number one in Juniors (if possible, but not the ultimate goal), but his main aim has been to get as many ATP points as possible so he doesn't have to spend too long 'messing around and bogged down' in Futures events next year - and juggling the three has been tricky.
