Thank you for clarifying the help for Ryan.

His clay results have been great, eventhough he hasn't learnt the art of sliding on the surface to the max yet. He's starting to get to grips with this green stuff now, but outside hard is still his favourite. The help from James has been very limited to date, just the odd phone call, but there is clearly a will from the LTA, to start to try and help a little more. Ryan would greatly benefit from some top level coaching, at this stage in his development. I've got all my fingers crossed that the family find the right balance between doing it their own way, getting the right type of help, and balancing the finances.

The 'odd phone call' .... read it and weep....

He has been getting some top coaching, from some top respected names/set-ups. Just not the LTA or their ilk.

Personally, it might well be better to stick to what is working so well. Although finance can be a problem, as it always is, and sometimes dictates choices.

I think we have an awful lot to be thankful to Spain for.....

Thanks for that link CD, that's definitely one of the options on the table at this stage, from what I can gather.

The Ferrer academy obviously did a great job for the couple of months he was there.

More sheer power, it seems to me.

Clay court drills and Spanish work ethic are a great combination.

And some great results to back it up.

A bit ironic, given the LTA had said no a little earlier.

But if the LTA want to change their mind, that's great.

As long as what's on offer is actually worth something and not eaten up in hidden costs, as some of their offers are.

Good luck to him and the family in making the right choice going forward.

Nice wins for Ryan and Alastair.

Ewan loses out in two close-looking sets.

Jay is into a third after taking the second set TB

Do you know what precisely the LTA had said no to ?

Any actual funding, the like of which quite a few of the other juniors get.

Maybe doesn't fit in with the LTA project : less than 10 in the top 500. Ryan must be a serious danger to that

It does seem maybe harder to get funding at this particular crucial junior towards senior stage in general.

He has come from outside the system, but if that's an issue that's very poor. He seems clearly a raw, but increasingly good talent, worth investing in, and seemingly more than some favoured ones.

A tough quarter-final against the JWR 2 but if successful Alastair will earn a Special Exempt into Wimbledon, freeing up a wildcard. Doubles interest ended after Jack/Ben suffered a 11-9 MTB defeat to the fifth seeds

QF

Alastair Gray v (2) Ulises Blanch (USA)
