RE: Wimbledon Wildcards - Women

Good news that Maia moved into qualifying today by right, after a withdrawal. Jodie is next in but I think we all expect to see her in the initial Main Draw awards.

With Katie B, Lily and Katie S already in qualifying and main draw wild cards still to be announced, Jodie is assured of at least qualifying even if she is overlooked for a main draw wild card.

List is out. No surprises:

Katie B
Jodie
Katie S
Lily
Sonay
Serena

Qualies:

Beth
Eden
Talia
Ranah
Mimi

Doubles:

Harriet/Heather
Eden/Jodie
Lissey/Liv
Beth/Lily

Doubles entries close on Friday I believe, so with exclusions I think Lissey/Liv stand an outside shot of making the cut, same with Harriet and Heather. But maybe just a few slots outside.

Serena is playing doubles next week in Eastbourne with Ons Jabeur to warm up, no singles

Good stuff.

I wasn't as convinced as some that Sonay would get a MD WC though I would give her one.

And they've given 10 initial British MD + Q WCs as against their indicative limit of 8 ( though are any of the younger Q WC automatic from some ranking or tournament? )

I guess Emily & Ali will be disappointed and Ali certainly showed how much she cares yesterday! But although they have done well, they are still 'just' ranked WRs 296 and 324 respectively and haven't quite managed a biggie result. Not quite up there anyway with the overlooking of Lissey & Olivia last year.

Perhaps if Anna Brogan can get a win or two at Ilkley (meaning she cant get to the WC Play offs) she will be given one of the residual qualies ones? Suspect she would need to reach the last 8 at Ilkley to get it?

Sam was in that position a couple of years ago and didn't get one. She was much higher ranked than Anna at the time too. They might do that, but there's precedent for them not rewarding a play-off missing run.

I'm disappointed for Ali and Em, especially given there's no ranking points on offer. But given girls haven't been given doubles wildcards in the past despite being too 200, and pairs like Lissey/Liv whom were more established and more successful by this point I think we're overlooked previously, it would have been a big about turn to see them on this list. Still time though!

So no sign of Matilda which confirms what we've been saying about her clay court summer (and maybe about her relationship with the LTA????)

Talia and Ranah get the youngster call over Jasmine (which is no real surprise) and over Isabelle Lacy, which might surprise some as Isabelle has her adult ranking but Ranah doesn't but, although some haven't really rated her, Ranah has a different sort of tennis to Talia, Isabelle, Ella etc and has just - very timely - proven her worth at Ilkley

Happy for all of them

Don't really have an opinion about Ali and Emily - I'd have rather Emily W-S had been given a wildcard in dubs

No real surprises, but I see they have kept back two singles, two qualifying and three doubles wildcards so there may be more to come still.

They only gave out 5 doubles wildcards in 2021 though and Emily W-S, Naiktha and Sam (+Tara) have missed out this time - although Sam might get in directly.
I think Emily and Ali may have missed their chance this week.

The two quali wildcards are only for the play-offs, aren't they? And one of the singles for the Ilkley winner (if needed)?

Sam surely will get a doubles wildcard if she needs one

No, there are still 4 qualies places - 2 not awarded yet and 2 for the play offs

Yes, I am certainly assuming that Sam would get a doubles WC if needed.

If she is aiming to play with Vivian Heisen (?) then I think they will be DEs OK.
