Boys & Girls: 57° Trofeo Bonfiglio, Italy, clay - Grade A (Week 20)

Ryan lost the second set 6-4

The Greek was obviously the big favourite so at least one competitive set is nice.

Shame for Katie....that's her second rather disappointing junior tournament in a row.

Not that it's a big deal.

NB Anisimova won 6-4 in the third. But Caty, who'd beaten Em Epp, lost.

Katie is still on the entry list for Eastbourne 50k week beginning 30th May the same week as RG juniors - does anyone think she may choose to play here over RG juniors?

Katie is still entered in both. I'd expect her to play RG juniors.

Doubles isn't going great either. Alexis is struggling in his match and Katie and Emily are 5-3 down in the opener

Clay doesn't seem to suit Katie's game; personally, I'd like to see her choose Eastbourne over RG juniors

The girls squeaked through 10-8 in the MTB.

I'd like to see Katie playing more doubles on clay, as neither seems to suit her game. What doesn't kill her will make her stronger.

Katie got to a Grade A final on clay, so cannot be that bad on the surface.

Exactly.

It seems far more likely that she simply isn't playing very well at the moment.

Which is hardly a major problem.

Constantly switching between adult and junior is not easy, both mentally and in terms of style of game. But she's not the only one doing it either, of course.

A Grade A singles final, and two Grade A doubles finals. But I don't thibk she sees it as a good surface for her, she's never entered a women's tournament on clay, and her doubles results in juniors have generally lagged her singles. Better, in my view, if she hones her skill set now, rather than in a crucial away Fed Cup tie in a few years time.

Both girls have 62.5 points to replace a 20; which in K's case would have been a replacement for 150 points gained here last year.

A few of the top girls from last year are due to drop down the rankings shortly after good result here last year and at the French, so chances for Katie, Emily and Jodie to climb even further up the rankings.

Looks like a lot of the play today could be done indoors if this first match on the livescores is anything to go by.

Emily+Katie won again 6-3, 3-6, 10-5 and into a SF against the 1seeds...

Up to 100/4 points, a net gain of 80/4 for Emily, a net loss of 50/4 for Katie, so far...

I've also seen a recent picture of Katie with her right shoulder strapped, so that could be a niggle that's holding her back from her peak form.

It seemed to me in the match I saw last week that Katie's "winners" were coming back by reason of the slowness of the court, often more than once in a rally, and she was in danger of putting her shoulder out by going for too much too often. Short sharp rallies seem more of her forte (albeit, I acknowledge, she has clearly had some decent tournaments on clay). Glad to see Emily and Katie are through to the dubs QFs :D
