Week 19 - ATP Masters 1000 - Internazionali BNL d'Italia - Rome, Italy (clay) (non-Andy + doubles)

Well, Rojer and Tecau are out. So it all rather depends on the progress of Messrs Melo and Murray.

And now Melo ( with Dodig ) has also lost in R2 ( their first match ).

Jamie is one win against the Bryans from returning to WR 1. Otherwise the absent Nicolas Mahut is the new WR 1.

In running :

1. Mahut : 7670 - not playing and didn't last year.
2. Melo : 7770 - 180 = 7590 + 0 = 7590 - out in R2
3. Murray : 7535 - 180 = 7355 + 180 = 7535 - through to QF
4. Tecau : 7630 - 180 = 7450 + 0 = 7450 - out in R2

So that means Mahut is no. 1 going into the French? That seems like a nice achievement for him and well deserved. Congrats to him if so. Here's hoping Jamie can do the same going into Wimbledon (though I've not looked at the likelihood of this - points to defend etc).

Yes, well err assuming that I haven't overlooked anything, that's Mahut WR 1 on Monday and Mahut & Herbert ( who I assume will be fit ) CR 7 and #1 French Open seeds.

 Melo and Herbert?

Yep, a new partnership for the French Open. Maybe not. Corrected.

Ahh, what I overlooked was that Mahut and Herbert would be 'awarded' 0 points for Rome replacing their 18th counter, which was 90 for both of them.

Not sure at what stage you have to count a Masters doubles, but the draw had been made with them in it so that was rather late.

So actually Marcelo Melo remains at WR 1 by now just 10 points.

A CR of 8 though still has Mahut & Herbert as #1 seeds for the French Open.

Bother. Was hoping you were correct ... but must admit that the absence of any congratulatory tweets from Mr Mahut's colleagues had left me wondering.
