Week 19 - ATP Masters 1000 - Internazionali BNL d'Italia - Rome, Italy (clay) (non-Andy + doubles)

In the doubles, it is all so tight in the rankings that if any of Melo, Mahut, Tecau or Murray are in the title winning pair they will be WR 1 after the French Open. I'll pass on any other scenarios.

In running, deducting last year's Rome points or 18th bests in the cases of Mahut and Herbert :

1. Melo : 7770 - 180 = 7590
2. Mahut : 7670 - 90 = 7580
3. Tecau : 7630 - 180 = 7450
3. Murray : 7535 - 180 = 7355
5. Rojer : 7530 - 180 = 7350
6. Herbert : 7280 - 90 = 7190

Unfortunately, in keeping with French predictions, the old man Robert is currently up nicely against Ali Bedene

Robert : 7-6 3-0

Never fear, Robert's legendary choking abilities have been summoned and we are back on serve at *4-5

Yes, Stéphane serves for it - and gets broken - it's 5-5

Regardless of the result this has been one of the worst tiebreaks I've ever seen

Another first round exit for Aljaz. I don't know how these things work exactly but if I were him I would be doing everything I could to get a WC for the Mestre challenger next week. Currently he just has RG for the next 3 weeks and after a string of round 1 exits he badly needs a run of games and also some points as his ranking is going south in a hurry at the moment. He may have a good run at RG but he is just as likely to draw Fed in R1.

I can't see why Mestre would give him a wild card. He is hardly a big enough name to pull in any punters and the Italians don't lack players of their own to hand out goodies to. If he wants to play there he can always sign in for qualifying.

Is it just me, or does it seem that Aljaz's downturn in form seems to have coincided with the ITF decision to refuse him the right to play DC for Team GB. It is almost as though that decision has knocked the stuffing out of him and he can hardly buy a win at the moment.
