Good stuff. Fran has moved ahead of Ali Collins the junior rankings for all that that doesn't matter much at their stages. Just good to see another year bringing through at least two girls and they seem to be continuing to progress well.
Yes. I make it that Fran will up to about WR 113 or so, even if she loses the final.
And Nell Miller should be put in the list too. She may be a fair bit lower, at WR 250, but she's only played 5 events ! (Compared to about 17 for Fran)
Neither Kaja nor Fran had dropped a set this week, so perhaps unsurprising that we should have an epic first set. Fran was 3-1 down, served for the set at 5-4, had 3 set points saved, but was forced into a tiebreak. Fran has just taken the tiebreak 7-2. Meanwhile the boys final, which started at the same time, is into the third set.
And even more credit to her because, not only did she leave home to go to Spain at an early age, but she has EEC syndrome (affects hands/fingers/feet/palate etc.), has had lots of ops, and attributes her great metal strength partly to that.
Thanks for posting that link, CD. What an amazing young woman. All power to her - really hope she does succeed not only this week but more generally. But then, to be honest, with that kind of attitude, she's going to succeed, whatever she does.
