Boys & Girls: 21e Tournoi ITF Junior de Beaulieu-sur-Mer, France, clay - Grade 1 (Week 16)

Fully British (although learnt his tennis in California) Ryan is currently taking on half-British (although born and learnt his tennis in France), French kid, Evan Furness.

Evan's dad is Mark Furness, from Sheffield originally I think. Qualified, serious level tennis coach, tennis company, Wilson agent, and used to play for the 'British team' (?), from what I can see.

Was playing some money tournaments in France as a 20 year-old, got asked to play for one of the club's league teams, they paid his travel, he went there more and more, ended up staying, married a French woman, is now the resident coach at the club and has two very high level tennis youngsters.

Evan is about JWR 50 or so and has an ATP ranking of 1669 (CH 1438)

made the semis of the last two French G2s.

Could be close....but hoping Ryan will just have too much for him....

Yes, was watching the ticker, got to 2-2 and then Ryan motored away

Just reading that little sis, Lucy (spelled the English way), is more highly regarded by the powers that be. Think she's only 13 or so.

Emily App is 1-1

Sorry to hear that re: Ms Collins - hope she recovers quickly and well. Good work for Mr Storrie. And yet another argument for league tennis.

To be complete:

R3: Ryan James STORRIE (GBR) [4] 6-2 - 7-5 Evan FURNESS (FRA) [14]

which is a nice win.

Girls R3

(10) Iga Swiatek (POL) def. (6) Emily Appleton 6-3 6-4

As DavidC had correctly predicted, the Polish girl was indeed a danger.....

Ewan yet to pplay.

Boys R3

Yshai Oliel (ISR) d. Ewan Moore 6-3 6-3

QF

(13) Geoffrey Blancaneaux (FRA) v (4) Ryan James Storrie

Worth pointing out that the French lad who beat Ryan (who plays mainly adult tennis now and is ATP 800 or so) won the final 6-0 6-2, and went the whole week without dropping a set.
