In the boy, Alexis and Ryan have a BYE in R1. Ewan gets the boy who Jack Molloy beat last week. In the girls, Emily App gets a BYE too and Ali draws the young (14 year-old) wildcard, who Georgie beat in three last week.

"Jaimee Floyd Angel"?

The French should never have abandoned the list of acceptable prenoms. Curse you Mitterand!

Ryan is going to have his work cut out, playing an Italian (born in Argentina) who is only a junior by 5 days, ATP adult ranked 1610 (junior ranked 127 but ex 72)

Alexis has a French wildcard with no amazing pedigree (that I know of) and seems a far easier prospect.

Ewan now plays the 9th seed, an Italian, again born very early 98, JWR 56 (ex 36), no adult ranking but has a doubles one.

Emily App has a French unranked wildcard (born 2001) who, again, does not look anything amazing on paper.

I guess Jaimee Floyd Angel was named after the Dutch footballer Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, who was a star player at the time he was born.

So far, in the two 'easier' matches today in France:

Alexis won his first set 6-2 but lost the second 3-6

Emily Appleton won her first set 6-2

That's a poor result from Alexis.

However, the others have done great.

Excellent victory from Ryan against the ATP 1610 clay guy, and excellent, tight, win too from Ewan against a decent Italian, ex JWR 36

(4) Ryan James Storrie def. Andres Gabriel Curletti (ITA) 6-2 7-6(10)

Ewan Moore def. (9) Corrado Summaria (ITA) 7-6(7) 7-6(8)

Agree with you CD Poor from Alexis,

Excellent win for Ewan! And a decent but expected win for Ryan, his opponent may have an ATP ranking but I wouldn't say he's a clay guy. He's played 5 clay tournaments this year and only made the 2nd round twice.

I'd still defend the comment that he's a clay guy - he's played on nothing but clay for the whole of the last 12 months (apart from the Aussie Open) and that's in both juniors and adult. I don't think he plays on any other surface. And he made the final of a G2 on clay last autumn. i.e. he may not be the best 18 year-old out there but he's an out and out clay player.

So, to be honest, I though Ryan might have more trouble. Delighted, of course, that he didn't smile

Ok CD I'll agree with you... he is a clay guy but arguably so is Ryan, and Ryan's form on clay this year has been excellent by comparison, so didn't see this match a tough one.

Good luck to both Ryan and Ewan with tomorrow's matches!!
