That's only because we have lots of juniors in the top 200. That's not always been the case.
Well, we seem happy to host Wimbledon and a whole range of top WTA and ATP events while having practically no one of the right level in adult tennis so where's the difference?
Which is great but do they actually help the development of junior players in the UK? They are the preserve of those who are already at the required ranking, having been able to travel and gather points so as to enter, or the top juniors from far flung places. I don't see them as greatly productive for the majority of other players. A grade 2 or 3 along the way would help much more. A player in qualies for ITF grade 4 has to win through 2/3 qualifying matches and then two main draw ones to get any points. This also requires 5 days in Nottingham in April. Which is fine but these events are actually quite strong as our numbers of juniors at a certain level is quite high so these events are more competitive than a similar event elsewhere in the world.
