The final tournament of the COSAT circuit is a Grade A attracting the strongest field of the circuit. If Emily Appleton wins her round 1 match tomorrow she will probably face 8th seed Berfu Cengiz, who is ranked inside the top 600 WTA. Kelly Araujo lost in qualifying
The Turk has played four junior tournaments at Grade 1/A level this year, and her first round win today was her first in four attempts. Compared to Emily's 16-4 win-loss record in 2016, and I'd give the Brit a chance.

It's Emily's doubles partner as well. Similarly ranked at junior and main tour. Could be close.
Emily's acclimatisation to Latin American conditions should stand her in good stead even though there is a fair gap between them on the WTA rankings (585 v 932)
The senior rankings probably reflect the opportunities at 10k and challenger level offered in and around Turkey.
I think they are very closely matched, Emily lost in Plovdiv in April but takes a consistent run of good performances against strong opponents into this game. I hope they enjoy their game and Emily gets the result.
Emily lost to Cengiz last time they played, in Bulgaria, 12 months ago.
Will be interesting to see how it goes this time - Emily is certainly way more in form, in terms of junior results.
As DavidC pointsed out, Cengiz has a far higher WTA ranking but it's based on playing quite a lot of 10ks in Turkey etc. Not really stellar results/events. Nothing too impressive. (She was 1-1 with Mirabelle last year).
Emily won! Cracking victory, 6-4 4-6 6-4. Will face Ayumi Miyamoto in the L16, who she has already beaten twice this year, both times in straights sets, 5&4 and 5&2.

Excellent win. If she can claim a third success against Miyamoto Emily is likely to be up against American wunderkind Amanda Anisimova, who beat Katie Swan in a GA final in November.
Nice to see Emily turn the tables on last April and although Ayumi is still in the way there is the potential to test herself against some of the very best girls still on the junior tour!
