RE: Boys & Girls: 32. Perin Memorial , Croatia, clay - Grade 1 (Week 10)

I believe that the trips to the 'well-selected' tournaments have been completely self-funded (the main reason he travels alone). So, I'm not sure why the trips show that he's 'obviously' getting any support.

Although he did receive a couple of wilcards (one MD, and one Quali one, from recollection) to the British ITFs. Which is certainly a sort of help from the LTA.

And a couple of training sessions is better than nothing.

But some kids are getting the full new grant, which can be very generous, and can cover all coaching for the whole year. It's hardly the same.

But what I think is quite exciting about his game, too, is that he grew up never playing on clay, up until his mid teens, and yet has such a perfect game and physique for clay; it's going to be very interesting.

Yes, a really great week for our youngsters and a G1 win for Ryan is superb.  What is your link with Ryan (apologies if you explained this in your first post)?

Excellent news.

Thanks to Anne for the good news and lets hope Ryan gets some recognition from the LTA going forward.

I only saw him play once, up at Wirral, and he impressed. Similar style to Dan Cox.

Do you reckon? Re Dan Cox ? Interesting.

I wouldn't say so (although neither are that tall - a bit of an understatement for Dan, of course).

Ryan has a real clay game (which I don't think Dan does) - the spin, ball trajectory, court positioning etc. are different.

To me, Dan Cox has a traditional base-line hard court game but, unfortunately, lacks the inches to make it as effective as it needs to be.

Ryan is a Spanish clay-courter.

Fantastic news. I watched Ryan's match at junior Wimbledon last year. I liked his game. Liked to mix things up. Should have won that match really.

Hi Oakland
As Ryan's mother you are obviously privy to information I don't have.

Anne's first post - yes, mother

Anne congratulations on your sons performance today

I thought my post was reasonably accurate in describing Ryan's excellent progress over the last year. His choice of tournaments and the quality of opposition he has played and done well against. I didn't intend to imply that he was receiving enormous amounts of funding from the LTA.

There was a typo in that rather than saying "aiding the LTA in their coaching sessions" (for coaches) it was auto corrected to add.

I hope you enjoy your evening and Ryan's success, I apologise profusely for any possible misinterpretation of the information available but sincerely hope he is so successfully in the future he is regularly "papped" and it happens often.

That confused me for a bit.  Anne was telling us that Oakland was Ryan's mother, which didn't look likely.  Anyway - very many congratulations to Ryan for a great victory and I look forward to supporting him in the future.

Yep a few things needed clearing up.

Fantastic Ryan won, although would be even prouder, probably absolutely choked, if I was his mum!
