Boys & Girls: 32. Perin Memorial , Croatia, clay - Grade 1 (Week 10)

Fran Jones skips continents for another G1, and draws a local wildcard. She joins 3 boys, all with reasonable but testing draws on paper.

Boys R1 (L64)

(10) Ryan James Storrie v Alexandru Vasile Manole (ROU)

Max Stewart v Tomas Liska (SVK)

(15) Ewan Moore v August Holmgren (DEN)

Girls R1 (L64)

Francesca Jones v (WC) Nika Besker (CRO)

Just to mention, as it's a Grade 1, that both Aleksandra Topalovic (GBR) and Jeremy Gschwendtner won one Quali round before losing. Jeremy actually had a BYE in the first round, won his second, and lost the FQR in a third-set TB, which is galling.

Aleksandra, however, has got a play in the MD doubles.

Good news from Croatia for the boys:

R2

(10) Ryan James Storrie def. Patrick Kaukovalta (FIN) 7-5 6-1

Max Stewart def. (WC) Frane Nincevic (CRO) 6-1 7-5

(15) Ewan Moore def. Alessandro Coppini (ITA) 6-2 4-6 6-4

But:

Girls R1 (L64)

Francesca Jones lost to (WC) Nika Besker (CRO) 7-6(1) 7-6(6)

(The boys all lost their doubles, as did Aleksandra - Fran still to play)

(7) Louis Tessa (FRA) v Max Stewart

Sorry, Fran, for getting the rounds confused and missing your win yesterday.

Unfortunately, she got edged out of the doubles today too.

Looks like we have some competition for GB junior no.2....

Ryan and Ewan both won.

Ryan gets the top seed and a chance to avenge a 3 set defeat last year. It's another Italian qualifier for Ewan

(7) Louis Tessa (FRA) d. Max Stewart 6-3 6-1
(15) Ewan Moore d. (Q) Federico Iannaccone (ITA) 4-6 6-3 6-1

QF

(1/Q) Lukas Klein (SVK) v (10) Ryan James Storrie
(Q) Luca Prevosto (ITA) v (15) Ewan Moore

Just heard that Ryan has beaten the top seed, 7-5 6-1 !!!!

Am SO thrilled for the boy (probably over there on his own again, and not funded: LTA - look at yourself in the mirror and blush !).

A brilliant result, and tournament. Big moves up in the rankings coming.

Fingers crossed for Ewan too.

I make it that Ryan will now be on the edge of the top 50, and counting.

And, for what it matters, will go ahead of Alexis (who has points coming off on Monday, net 20, I think).

Ewan, of course, is still in the chase and should be back up to just off WR 60, no matter what.

A very nice win from someone who looks as if he is likely to justify some of the early hype. Quite a few good wins over the past few weeks.
