Emily is quoted briefly on the Banana Bowl website and said that the Japanese girl raced out to a 4-0 lead in the first set before Emily got going. In the top half of the draw seeds (Udvardy/Escauriza) prevailed against the American young Turks
The other finalist is the Hungarian 5th seed who is playing her first tournament since the Australian Open. It's the first time she has been in a G1 final as well
Apparently she is in Brazil with her parents and the final is being broadcast from 9am (noon GMT) on TVSpor 3 (don't know if we can see this). According to the article Emily would be the first British winner of the girls event, though David Brewer won the boys event in 2003 (looking at the site's full list of previous finalists I see Alex Bogdanovic was also a finalist in 2001 losing to Gilles Muller, but Emily is actually the first British finalist in the girls event).
Emily has a nice schedule with the grade A next week and then the US spring champs. That's a loaded event with 12. Yes 12 top 100 American juniors.
To think a few years ago people were discussing the fall of America as a tennis nation and now they've produced countless potential champs on the boys and girls side.
