Last year a team featuring Holly Fischer and Kylie Bilchev reached the under 12 final in Sunderland. The third member of that trio Andrea Pineda is still eligible, and is leading the team attempting to qualify this weekend. They have started with a comfortable 3-0 win over Poland (straight sets wins for Andrea and Leah Gonzales Edwards, who combined for the doubles). They need to beat the Slovak Republic tomorrow to qualify for Sunderland
The under 12s ensured their place at Sunderland with another 3-0 victory. Leah won in 3, Andrea in straights before Andrea combined with Hannah Smith for a comfortable win in the doubles. Tomorrow's match against Austria or Switzerland will determine seeding rights.
The under 12s lost their third match to Switzerland 2-1 after Leah was edged out 7-5 in the third. Andrea won in straights but lost the doubles with Hannah, so the team will be unseeded in Sunderland. They will be joined by Russia, Ukraine, and Czech Republic (all perennially strong, and the only nations to have won this event) along with Romania, Turkey and France
A strong start to qualifying for the under 16s, who accounted for second qualifying seeds Slovenia thanks to straight set wins from Nell Miller and Eliz Maloney, though Nell and Hannah McColgan lost the doubles. They now need to beat Denmark to qualify for the finals.
Disappointment for the under 14s (Amarni Banks, Holly Fischer and Emma Raducanu) who lost 2-1 to Austria (Holly winning her singles, but Amarni lost and the pair were edged out 10-7 in the doubles match tiebreak). They miss out on a crack at the very strong top seeds Ukraine
A strong performance by the under 16s brushing Denmark aside 3-0 to reach the finals. Nell won in 3, Eliz in straights before combining with Hannah for an emphatic doubles win. They play a strong Polish team for seeding rights
The under 16s finished their qualifying campaign in style, sweeping aside the top seeded Poles. Nell and Eliz won comfortably, with Eliz trouncing Iga Swiatek 1 & 1 - a player who beat Eliz, Ali Collins and other Brits easily last year to reach the fringes of the ITF top 100. Eliz & Hannah added another straight sets win in the doubles. The under 14s finished 6th in their group after a win and a loss
The under 12 finals in Sunderland start tomorrow with a quarter-final against Ukraine, who are usually one of the strongest nations at this level (beat Holly Fischer's team in last year's final)
Andrea battled to a 7-5 in the third win, but straight set defeats for Leah and in doubles (Hannah + Andrea) meant the team lost 2-1 and have to play for the minor places.
The under 12s finished seventh following a 3-0 defeat by Russia and a 2-1 victory over Turkey (Andrea didn't play - Leah won her singles and combined with Hannah for the doubles)
The under 16s are in the Czech Republic for their finals. To reach the semis Eliz, Hannah and Nell will need to overcome Belarus. They are in the opposite side of the draw to top seeds Russia who include junior stars Olesya Pervushina and Anastasia Potapova.
