RE: Madeline

There isn't much to say that hasn't already been said. The kind nature of the forum in general, and the adoration in this topic in particular, are a testament to the close, passionate and knowledgeable community that she helped to create, and which I was happy to join. A tennis fan like the rest of us. Rest in peace to her and best wishes to the family.

How very sad!  My condolences to all her family and friends.

I think I remember her saying she contributed to the British tennis picture that we have, and in her usual self-deprecating manner saying how simple it was.

However for me, it is a very good symbol which says it all, it doesn't need to be complicated.

It's amazing how someone whom you have never met can affect your feelings so strongly. Very sad news - thank you Steven for keeping us informed and writing such lovely thoughts about Madeline. She always came over as a huge fan, very caring and very happy not to take herself too seriously.

Her family and friends should have many happy memories to share, as will we all. Thoughts and prayers to all those close to her. Madeline, the forum was a better place for having you as a member.

Thanks for all the heartfelt comments, everyone. There are even more on AMFF at http://www.andymurrayfanforum.com/forums/showthread.php?3736-Some-sad-news and on MTF at http://www.menstennisforums.com/3-non-tennis/749113-rip-madeline-decrepitude-tribute-thread.html

If only I was more technically minded - it would be nice if we had an option of putting Madeline's M over our profile pic on here as a tribute like people did with the French flag on facebook.

I'm not sure how to do that easily (though it can't be that hard) but she actually has a picture to remember her by on every page -  it was Madeline who designed the simple but effective "BRITISH TENNIS" banner that has appeared at the top of every forum page since early 2011, when Drew was getting too busy to produce the regularly changed banners he used to do for us around every slam.

Everyone has said it already, but a sad loss to the Form and condolences to Madeline's family and friends.

She came across as a genuine tennis fan and a someone you would have loved to meet in person and have a chat to.

I think that's the first time I have felt genuine sadness about hearing someone that I have never met has passed away. As Steven said at least she was here for the good times in GB tennis in the last couple of years.

How very sad. Isn't it strange how "internet people" become such an integral part of one's lives.

It doesn't seem to be a good week to be an over-65.

A soul carried on these pages with a dignity, patience and warmth to which I could only aspire; and love of Andy in spades!
Condolences to all, and may the universally effusive approbation and genuine tributes unfolded by the online tennis communities that found her, provide a comfort to them in some small way.
Thank you Madeline.

Very sad to read this news, but the tributes are moving and deserved. Madeline's openness about how various aspects of her life impinged on her following of tennis, combined with her consistently friendly and wise approach led to the feeling of knowing her and caring for her, despite never having met. Thank you Madeline.

Only just read this - very very sad. My only dealings with her really were when I first joined the forum and she gave me advice about which thread was best to post on about meeting up at tennis events which was one of the main reasons I joined. She came across as a genuine and helpful person and those who knew her better than I did were clearly united in a similar opinion.

RIP Madeline, condolences also to the family. And I would also echo the previous comments about Steven's superb obituary.
