Boys & Girls: ITF East Africa 18&U, Kenya, clay - Grade 4 (Week 3)

A heap of names one doesn't recognise, which is always nice....

Well done to Arran, age 14.

R1:

(Q) Arran TRAINOR (GBR)     6-1 6-1     Ntamba RADJABU (BDI)

Younes MOUKTABIL (MAR)     6-4 2-6 6-4     (LL) Charley GREGORY (GBR)

Pavel MIROBYAN (RUS)     6-2 6-3    (LL)  Ronan SAHNI (GBR)

Zlatan PALAZOV (BUL)     6-1 6-2     Shivam SHAH (GBR)

Jeremy G, Julian Robinson and Damian Rodriguez all have BYEs through to R2

As do Jonéa Bach and Esther Adeshina in the girls

Thanks Matilda. I hadn;t forgotten him (just in case you're his mum ! smile) But he didn't play his R1 till today.

And the poor lad had a gruelling 3 set win and then had to play his round 2 ! Which is not nice.....

Final R1 match:

Zyaan AHMED (GBR)     4-6 7-6(4) 7-6(5)     Harry SIMAIOFORIDIS (GRE)

R2: Boys:

Julian ROBINSON (GBR) [12]     6-4 7-5     Hadrien HALLET (BEL)

Damian RODRIGUEZ (GBR) [4]     6-3 6-2     Albert NJOGU (KEN)

Jeremy GSCHWENDTNER (GBR) [3]     6-4 7-5     Marko VUJIC (AUT)

Joshua HOWARD-TRIPP (RSA) [1]     6-1 6-0     Arran TRAINOR (GBR)

Emanuel MALLYA (TAN) [6]     6-3 6-2     Zyaan AHMED (GBR)

Jonea BACH (GBR) [5] 7-5 6-2 Karine Marion JOB (FRA)

Esther ADESHINA (GBR) [6] 6-1 6-1 Caterina Luisa ROKKE (NOR)

Into the quarters which will be good extra points.

2 out of 3 for the lads:

R3 Boys:

Sheil KOTECHA (KEN) [7] 6-4 6-3 Julian ROBINSON (GBR) [12]

Damian RODRIGUEZ (GBR) [4] 6-4 7-5 Valentin ROYER (FRA)

Oh well, it's all down to JoJo now:

QF:

Draginja VUKOVIC (SRB) [2] 6-1 2-6 7-6(3) Esther ADESHINA (GBR) [6]

So close !!!

QF Boys:

(q) Simon Anthony IVANOV (BUL) 6-4 6-0 Damian RODRIGUEZ (GBR) [4]  (the Bulgarian lad is one of the Soto boys)

Ksawery POCIEJ (POL) [5] 7-6(7) 6-1 Jeremy GSCHWENDTNER (GBR) [3]

However, JoJo was leading 6-3 4-1 , against the top seed, when play was suspended.

So fingers crossed for her to finish the job tomorrow.

NB She seems to be at a really nice set-up in France, everything in place to get an excellent foundation, and definitely making good progress - one to watch, I reckon.....

Poor Jojo (born 2001) had to play four matches today! (well, three and a bit, at any rate).

Pretty successful:

Quarterfinal

Jonea BACH (GBR) [5] 6-3 6-1 Celestine AVOMO ELLA (GAB) [1]

Great win against a top 300 player

Semifinal

Adithya KARUNARATNE (SRI) [4] 7-5 6-2 Jonea BACH (GBR) [5]

Couldn't keep it going but that's big points for her and a big jump in the rankings coming up.

And into the final with Esther !

Quarterfinal

Esther ADESHINA (GBR) / Jonea BACH (GBR) [3] 6-0 6-1 Judith MURAA (KEN) / Faith Nyabera OMURUNGA (KEN)

Semifinal

Esther ADESHINA (GBR) / Jonea BACH (GBR) [3] 7-6(5) 6-3 Celestine AVOMO ELLA (GAB) / Mariam MUJAWIMANA (BDI) [1]

Good luck to the two of them !
