I reckon that Andy will beat Mazarakis in two sets. Mazarakis has already played 3 matches on this surface but I don't think that will particularly give him an advantage as Andy has been practising in Indian Wells for about a week now and has played plenty of practise sets with Tim Henman.
I've been searching the web for info on Mazarakis' game:
These are his qualies results:
Rd1: bt H Levy 6-2, 6-2
Rd2: bt C Guccione [Aus] 7-6, 6-3
The win over Guccione was particularly impressive - Guccione is one of the biggest servers on the tour - he has Karlovic-like consistency and placement. That shows that Mazarkis returns serve well. Mazarakis' own serve is a big weapon - he doesn't get many aces and it's not incredibly fast but his 1st and 2nd serves are placed extremely well which means he gets a lot of service winners. I believe Mazarakis serve-volleys which should play into Andy's hands as Andy loves a target for his returns and his passing shots are one of his main weapons.
Madeline's description of Mazarakis as a journeyman is apt - the Greek has been playing at challenger level and qualifying for ATP events for about 4-5 years now but he's never yet got the breakthrough which would take him up in the top 100.
Unfortunately Mad ive already had this flu for three or four days :cries: The posters on BBC reckon that it'll take place at 10pm
I am an idiot. Of course Indian Wells is 8 hours behind, so the first match should be 6pm, making Andy about 10-ish. I can't count. I only spend 40-odd years in accountancy!
Edited to correct typos - I am not having a good day.
