Here we go, observations from Day 2 in Eilat :

First of all I'd like to say thanks from the bottom of my heart about all the positive feedback about my hat.

Right onto the tennis :

Katie again very impressive, I think serve wise she is maybe holding something back, because she doesn't go for her 1st serve 100% all of the time. Two standout moments for me which show her rich potential. We know about the serve and the forehand, but her movement and hand skills are world class as well. Her opponent played what I thought was an exceptional dropshot, but not only did Katie get to it she was able to hit a low backhand slice winner off it. She also played a delicate backhand drop volley with slice for a winner. Her backhand has become a very reliable wing, and she is now hitting more and more winners off it. But her biggest strength today was the mental one, she dug deep several times when her opponent stepped up her game, to save crucial break points.

Hev's performance was in complete contrast to yesterday and was a masterclass. Her opponent came out ripping the ball, but Hev played a superb counter punch game, soaking up the pressure, and then delivering the fatal blow. I suspect then gaining confidence from this, she went into overdrive, and basically tore her opponent apart, hitting winners from everywhere off both wings. Shapatava was by no means a bad player.

Finally Joss and Anna didn't play well to start with, in particular the serving was well below what they're capable of. They did improve, but their opponents were very good in particular Kalashnikova. Again though it's tomorrow that counts and it was a dead rubber. Neither player was at their best, so you couldn't bring a sub in. I fancy they'll get it done tomorrow if required.

Stuff the tennis!
We want more hat!

Where did you get it? How long have you had it? Is it bespoke to your head? How many matches has it been to? How many miles has it travelled? Does it get it'sown seat on the plane? Do you wear it on social occasions? ... ... ...

Thanks again Phil :D
It would be better if we were to win the singles 2-0 tomorrow, methinks, so your dubs theory doesn't have to be put to the test :)

Thanks for asking.

Theres a website dedicated to it, just google  Phil Wrights hat, and hopefully all the information you ask will be on there. I do have it insured for a 6 figure amount.

Ive just heard that, I did see a bit of strapping, but assumed it was precautionary sort of stuff. I would say she hasn't been quite as happy/ bubbly as usual, but I didn't know of any injury issue.

But seriously, thanks for all the courtside info - much appreciated.
Good luck to the girls for tomorrow!

edit - this is in reply to the HAT post - not laughing at the injury.

If that's the case, then unfortunately for Joss, she should really be switched out for Heather. If it goes to a deciding rubber (and I would say that's more likely than not) we can't have an injured player in play.

When is the playoff? Is it a morning session or afternoon session?

So...

Option 1. Continue as is, with Smith and Rae.

Option 2. Field the scratch pair of Smith and Watson.

Option 3. Watson and Swan?!?
