Exactly, it wasn't a premeditated draw. The computer could have generated it differently, the ball could have been put in the hat differently or however the hell you do it something could have been different.

Wow, I really didn't think this would be that big of a deal to post. Sorry.

Aw, no problem. I know I can be blunt sometimes. Don't be sorry.

Getting back to the 'actual' rather than 'hypothetical' draw...

There are 3 Europe v Non-Europe ties (Poland v Chinese Taipei, Ukraine v Argentina & Slovakia v Canada). The European teams, if they were to lose, would make next year's Euro/Africa Zone much more challenging as they are all stronger than the Nations currently there.

None of those European nations should be losing those ties. Radwanska will play for Poland to ensure they stay up and because it's at home.

A weak Poland side are 2-1 down at home to a weak Chinese Taipei side. Hope Poland can turn it around otherwise potentially we might have to face Radwanska next year.

Has Radwanska played for Poland more or less every season? I just question whether she'd be motivated enough to drag the team back out of the Euro/Africa group again should they end up losing.

Plus two of our girls have beaten Aga before, but obviously every match is different.

Poland lost 3-1 and are relegated.

Before this year Radwanska had played in 35 successive ties since her debut in 2006.

Serbia lost to Belgium so are relegated as well.

PS Two great semi finals this weekend, just watched the France-Netherlands doubles which was great tennis.

I wrote a very long piece about how wonderful the whole Fed Cup weekend has been, but ActiveBoard has eaten it

In short: two magnificent contributions to celebrate in losing causes - Viktorija Golubic for the Swiss defeated Pliskova & Strycova; Kiki Bertens for the Dutch defeated Mladenovic & García, and had an undefeated singles record all year always against much higher ranked and storied opponents..

In addition to the France/Netherlands match, as mentioned by wolf:

  • there was great tennis in the Romania/Germany tie - both Petko's matches were 2½ hour plus epics, a loss to Halep, and all heart and wrestling with her demons overcoming a first set bagel to eventually see of Niculescu
  • Azarenka vs. Kasatkina in the Belarus/Russia grudge match was fantastic the young Russian more than holding her own for most of the match
  • McHale & Vandeweghe's comebacks from a set down each to down Stosur were great (got to feel a little bit sad for Sam there)
  • there was Schiavone getting stung in the face by a bee, mid point against Muguruza
  • and the whole Slovakian crowd 'Pomé'-ing every point along with Cibulkova as she fought back to an eventual victory against a very impressive Abanda.

Glorious.
