I'm guessing there's still some ill-feeling after this - http://www.tennis-today.net/article.asp?node=54&a=3985&s=1

It would be nice if the LTA and the Clarke's actually talked to each other and explained what the problems are rather than going through the press.

It's not the first time the Clarke's have had arguments with the governing bodies or queried funding.

Yes, and what I find quite interesting is that there is now almost nothing on Google on what at the time were well-reported arguments. Just a couple of things from the 2011 case against David Lloyd, one of which SMC1809 has linked to.

Good point.

Are you assuming someone has exercised their 'right' under the new-ish European 'right to be forgotten' ?

Well, it just seems odd that there's now nothing to be found on (1) allegations of racism at the LTA Academy at Loughborough, (2) allegations of LTA inaction following racist abuse in Belarus, and (3) some sort of problem with housing being too far away from London training base. Those are just the ones I remember.

Whatever anyone's general views on racism in this country I would personally think that just about all potentially effected players have suffered some degree of racism in just about all sports ( as, of course, outside sports ) from individuals and some organisations, however subconsciously. The question is really of degree and again thankfully with probably the vast majority in sport these days it is overall to no great practical effect.

What is always sad to see is when the 'racist card' is overplayed and intentions and motives implied when there have been no such as at times the accuser themselves are aware. There is some Black Lawyers Society that comes to mind with football who to me threaten to undermine good work in the area by jumping on almost anything, often disingenuously.

I know nothing of the facts to accuse the Clarkes of overplaying and indeed think it naive to assume they haven't suffered in some regard, however small that might actually be.

And from what I read in the Sun extract here ( even with their hype tendencies ) Yasmin did nothing more than come across as confused as to why Jay was not better treated and indicated it left her wondering what it could be such as racism or class. Many others, including on this forum, are also questioning / surprised / confused while not citing any motives.

Wherever the truth lies, it Is all very sad.

It would be great if anyone who has any old information/articles on these topics posted them again.

Not that I have any reason to want them to do so vis-a-vis the Clarkes' case or the LTA, as such.

But just that I think that the 'right to be forgotten' is a hugely misdirected and misplaced judgement and people should know that it only applies to what is out there at any one moment. i.e. if you successfully apply to delete supposedly unnecessary historical information, then that does not have any effect going forward, so anyone is perfectly at liberty to legally re-post it all the next day. (Whereby the party can re-apply for a new 'right to be forgotten' deletion award and the whole cycle can start again).

The personal privacy argument is (largely) being abused by relatively savvy and wealthy parties wishing to doctor their profiles and delete perfectly true information that the public, I would argue, have a right to know.

The BBC maintain a list of their stories where google links have been deleted under 'right to be forgotten'.

Nice article about Jay, his time at Rouen for the Davis Cup and his tennis life in general:

Great article, we've had some let downs with players not coming through or giving up in the game e.g Oli Golding, Laura.
I hope that Jay can be the name on everyone's lips after Andy, Kyle, Jo, Dan and that era. He's got the advantage of having Andy and Jo taking alot of attention so far, so happily less pressure for him.

Great to see Some timely support coming Jay's way in the form of time with Esteban Carril, Jay makes a good point about being coached through the next level of transition to the ATP tour, the first time since Kyle we have seen someone dominate a cohort of futures players and then try to step up at an age that gives him a chance of going the whole way. More power to his elbow.

Well Jay has more than 3 months to be the first GB male to reach the top 400 by age 19 since Kyle, and only the third since Andy, ie. after Evo and Kyle - whatever happened to them? At already WR 418 the odds must strongly be on him achieving this and it could be as early as a result of this week.

All does not necessarily follow smoothly ( and Evo's subsequent path to where he is now has been let's say complicated ) but he's hitting good numbers at this age with the most recent two to have matched him now top 50. And he seems level headed with a good and enhanced team.

Evo's CH by his 19th birthday was 316, Kyle's 307 ( so do well to match these ) and Andy's was err 41.

Puts things in perspective re the golden generation of Andy, Rafa, Novak in that Kyle and Evo have yet to surpass Andy at 19. Jay needs to get his skates on to be top 40 by the end of the year. Mr Murray we salute you!
